It was a concern when Torts go here was that he has the abilty to wear out his welcome. I thought he would at least make it through the 1st season.
- fiveandagame

Torts is frustrated and vulnerable. Would have guessed if he was asked in NY if he would do it all over again he would tell the report to fo and next question.

I don't know why I keep refreshing TSN's trade tracker

Gillis has gone from talking bold moves to being unable to go to the bathroom without a call to FA.
- hillbillydeluxe

All talk no action. Beyond the insane offer to Sundin. What has done that could be considered bold besides trying to grow facial hair?

Because he has been first class all the way through a very bad situation even if he is set for life.

I am also not sure he has been outplayed in every season. He should have finished the LA series in my opinion, and this all kinda started then.

The reality is management has not managed anything - he or Cory should have been separated long before that happened. Lack is a ROOKIE, and the org just put "all that other stuff" behind them.

- TJTD

"First Class" would be outplaying your backup & earning your contract. Having a sense of humor about the sh!tty situation you've put yourself in via twitter may be endearing to some, but not me. Buy the loser out already.

Why all the sympathy for a guy who signed a set-for-life contract & went on to be outplayed by his younger backup every season since? Honest question...

Maybe bold isn't the word, but getting Ehrhoff for nothing was a good move.

Kassian for Hodgson was some what bold.

Trading Schneider with some GM's saying they were unaware he was available was, some would say, bold.

I'm no fan of what Torts has done here... But I'm also not under the delusion that our roster fits his coaching philosophy. Roster build needs to mesh with coaching philosophy. (DUH)

Kassian/Hodgson?

Schneider/Horvat?

I know they haven't exactly turned out as planned, but I consider them both very bold moves.

I'd also consider the Ballard deal pretty bold.

Being bold hasn't gone well for Gillis the times he's tried...

Ehrhoff was a good trade but SJ was handcuffed and had to do something.

There are a lot of layers to the Hodgson trade that I don't want to get into, but at the time I didn't like the fact that the team was supposed to be a contender and Gillis traded a decent roster player for a non-NHL ready prospect.

After Gillis was unable to trade Luongo he was pretty much forced to trade Schneider, for once again, a non-NHL ready prospect.

When he arrived, he ranted about the inaction in our old front office & the fact that the roster needed "bold moves". How many years later, we had the same goaltender, 75% of the defensive corps & top 6... Not quite bold enough.

The Ballard deal at the time was actually pretty good. Ballard was a top 4 d man and the Canucks desperately needed help on the back end.

GM's were saying they didnt know Hodgson was available... Gillis said there were only 5 players in the NHL that they would trade him for. Kassian was on that list...lol.

I don't know what he needs to do but its something. Still not sold on the Horvat deal we need more time to tell but Kassian is working out fine in my opinion. I would do that trade again. I laughed at the Ballard deal posted that gif of him 2 handing his goalie in the face a dozen times.

The team having the bad rep of being a goalie graveyard could previously be pinned on the fans and media but a lot of this Luongo crap can go on the organization and some on Luongo for not keeping his trap shut. AV didn't help at the time either. I thought at the time they should just trade a hot Schneider because if they traded Lou, the first time Schneider stumbles it is another controversy - both are good goalies.

It sounds like Gillis should have been able to get a bit more for Schneider.

What is this team's plan for the goal position? Do they expect to move Lou? Has there been any interest? Package him with Kesler? Trade Lack? Is there any need to do anything and keep both?

I'm not trying to argue that he's made enough bold moves, or that his moves have been good.

But how can you not consider trading the team's highly touted top10-pick right when he's starting to break out bold?

At the time most thought Hodgson was an important part of the future core, and most we're shocked when the deal went down.

Trading the goalie most thought would backstop the team for the near future when he'd been trying to move the other goalie all year is also bold.

Packaging the team's 1st and one of their top prospect to get what was believed to be one of the best D available in the trade market was also bold.

He's made bold moves.

I'm not arguing that they were enough—the post I quoted said the only bold move he's made was growing his scroatee...

Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Game Review: Loss at Heritage Classic, Daniel Sedin Hurt
The Vancouver Canucks sparked a goalie controversy for no good reason as Eddie Lack's play wasn't enough to generate a win over the Ottawa Senators at the 2014 Heritage Classic on Sunday.

That sounds like a joke but iirc, Gillis did say something like that.

I think you have it backwards - the coaching philosophy has to fit the roster. Your way means that a new incoming coach means immediate roster changes.

Luongo is here for the long haul. If Lack keeps progressing the way he has, they will have to trade him at some point. Or get ready for the Schneider scenario V 2.0
