'Out there' rumor of the day (so far) -

Brodeur will get a "farewell" home start tonight before being traded to MIN following the game.

or him getting healthy
- -davies-

If he isn't healthy after the three week Olympic break he won't be healthy this season.

Sam Woo guaranteed me that Larsson was the steal of the draft.

By the way, is Dougie Hamilton still there clear-cut better player than Couturier as was widely discussed on here last year?

- jmatchett383

I think its pretty even. Hamilton has the higher upside. He has the chance to be a legit #1 dman.

Couturier is the safer choice. You can bank on 50-60 points with shutdown ability when he reaches his prime.

ESPN covers hockey? Did the NHL start replacing the puck with a basketball and allow players to jump and slam dunk?

I know. They will be overpaying if they get him. Canucks always overvalue.

I think coots winds up being a handzus. I find his lack of speed alarming for elite talent potential

Think about their last 3 games. They won 2/3 but finished -1.
- PhillySportsGuy

If you do the differential without including the first 10 games I think I read somewhere that they are like a +20. Its just that they started the season at a -25 during the first 10 games and that is really hard to come back from.

And Detroit has a negative goal differential because they have an insane amount of over time losses to put them into the playoffs.

I know. There was just a whole lot of "Coots is a bust, why didn't we get Hamilton!?!?" last year. Which was, of course, proceeded by a whole lot of, "Wow, Coots is amazing, what a steal!!" the year before that.

Ive never seen him play, but from what I read, he has the potential to be a steady two-way defenseman.

Having Larsson be this far behind in his development is a real detriment to the Devils. I think they were banking on him developing into a top pairing defenseman in a few years. He still might, but things haven't been good for him.

They said he was the most NHL ready defenseman in the draft and that Dougie Hamilton was a raw prospect who would take a while. Hamilton has passed Larsson.

- PhillySportsGuy

They stupidly rushed Larsson in, and the coaches were reluctant to use him with their nightly margin of victory being pretty much nil.

Word is he's doing really well in Albany, learning not to do too much at both ends.

I know. And Morin becomes Grossmann. Laughton becomes Madden. Hagg becomes a bigger Gus and Ghost never makes it to the NHL.

Homer could easily get value for both Downie and Mez. I think asking for a 2nd round pick for Mez is just right.

One guy I'd personally be interested in is Ron Hainsey. I could see Carolina parting with him for Downie or Mez straight up, as he's an UFA whose unlikely to resign. Carolina is also (SUPPOSEDLY) trying to cut salary per Dreger, to the point where they could move Jordan Staal.

I don't really care who goes where and for what quite frankly. As long as the end result is a more competitive hockey club. I will say, however, that I don't wholeheartedly support a trade for Ryan Kesler or a similar player. If we are going to move significant assets (Brayden Schenn+), we better be getting a high caliber dman, not another forward.

- mochoson

I just don't like it. I like what I have seen out of Meszaros lately. I'm afraid that if we trade him, or don't resign him, we are going to see him be a nice addtion to another team's top 4. This is a guy that is recovering from 2.5 years of injuries and he is starting to look as good or even better then the guy he used to be.

Again with Downie, what you get back is no-where near the value that he gives you as a depth player. Unless you are moving Mez and Downie to bring in players like MacDonald and Hemsky for a playoff run, I dont see much reason to trade them.

With the Flyers current roster, I would trade Couts for Hamilton straight up after the season. Thats not saying Hamilton is better. I just think he suits the Flyers needs more than Couturier.

I can see this happening ... if only because Homer knows there's a fair chance that he's a goner after this year.

I doubt he wants to sit on his hands, and would rather go out with a bang.

I think he's just upset that you (and some other people cough2Realcough) sometimes bet on the low ceiling of all of their picks as opposed to the high.

But Schenn's a better player than Kesler as of this moment.
