What about his game, aside from that short stretch, has shown you that he's capable of playing way out of a funk. He's actually been getting worse, and since the TDL, he's been even worse. I'd take any return for him. If we want a slow forward who won't win any board battles and will take stupid penalties, we can call up Newbury. - jmatchett383
lol....I like Newbury....I know his dad. Its just a gut feeling that Downie may be useful in the future....cant defend his play so I wont try. |

A funk? A funk lasts about 3 weeks. He has been useless for going on 2 months. You are right, you won't get anything for him but to keep playing him is going to kill this team. He was lucky against the Caps that he got coincidental minors during that 5 min. major. He could have easily been the only one taken off the ice. What player whose team is trying to rally would try to start something physical on a 5 min. major? Oh yea!!! A player in a "funk". He needs to be benched and for longer than a game or two. And he has no business on the pp unit. - Daveflyers36
That's the thing. If a guy has an up-and-down season and is going through a cold stretch, that's one thing. A guy who has been an outright detriment to the team and is actually hurting them every time he's on the ice for 2 months straight is another. |

dont disagree with anything you said. I think he does need to sit in the press box....him playing over Raffl is mind boggling....Hartnell over Raffl on top line is also a head scratcher.....But to me if your not going to get anything for Downie , make him your 13th forward beside Rosehill.... |

The one thing Bill's chart has proven is they dont major trades at deadline time...Adam Oates was the only really name player they brought in...so if any of the rrumors come true it would be the biggest trade they have made in two decades...dont see it...if you could ship out a little salary maybe investigate Hemsky for a mid level pick...price is right and he is the kind of forward the team needs |

If he's gonna be sat over Rosehill, then ANY return for him is good. We have players in the AHL who can give you exactly what he does for cheaper. Hell, I can skate slowly, lose board battles, make horrible turnovers, be ineffective on the powerplay, and take bad penalties. |

So the near past shows the Flyers may not make a move, but if they do, it will be for an undisciplined player. Rosehill, Carcillo, Sestito... |

Newbury and McGinn/Holmstrom could really give you what Downie does. I'll admit I never liked Downie even the first time he was here. That bias aside, he's shown no signs of getting out of his "funk." |

I don't really like Hemsky. He's very soft. he's a puck handler and passer. The Flyers are in need of a finisher or solid, 4th line player.
I, also, think Edmonton would want more than a mid-round pick. They will want a first or may settle for a pair of 2nds. |

No interest at all in Hemsky. He's like Olli Jokinen; he somehow gets points, but the way he does it is mysterious. There's just nothing exciting/interesting about him, and I don't think the Flyers should be going after skilled veteran forwards right now.
Also, there will be a team out there (Pittsburgh/Washington maybe) that will be looking to add a scorer to their top 6, and I don't want to get into a bidding war with them. |

If the Flyers make a move and its for anyone other than a younger higher top 4 mobile d-man... they failed miserably.
They could get Bobby Ryan, Marian Gaborik, and a replacement for Lou Nolan and I wouldnt be happy. |

Who? Lecavalier? lol. If we didn't sign lecavalier, we could be targeting vanek, moulson, or kulemin in the off season to fill his spot.....
Downie seems to always find a way to just bump people or let his stick loose on the ice. I swear players just fall to the ice whenever Downie's stick is near them because the know the refs are watching him too close. He commits so many tripping penalties by just barely touching other players, it is ridiculous. |

I don't like that If Im Vancouver. Not much upside with any of those players. If it was Sutter, Pouliot and a 2015 1st, I'd be all over that. |

Maybe Holmstrom. I have a feeling the organization does not want to bring up Newbury and they do not want McGinn in a fourth line role. He will only come up to the big club if a top 9 role is available, at least, from the way that they have handled McGinn in past situations. |
