A healthy Kesler is a game changer at the highest level and guys like him are not often made available. Hence the overpayment being asked.

The low level NHL players traded for 3rd and 4ht rounders rarely make a difference.
(Penner's playoff goals are more of the exception).

That being said, it makes no sense for the Flyers to spend their best assets for Kesler.

with Meszaros, Rosehill and even Gill gone that would create almost 5.5-6 mil....Downie ? Matt Read ? Im sure most of these guys could be moved out and the cap minipulated to work....but who knows what else would happen...Frankly they are stupid if they give up too much for that package....I guess we will see how much Holmgren is commited to the youth ?
As I have stated if it meant bringing in a younger cornerstone type D man then I could stomach Schenn or Couturier....

Keep in mind that the Flyers will still need depth for the playoffs. And will need a 7th defenseman, and depth forwards. As well as some cap space in case of injuries down the stretch.

He's a useless character and, as the person below you said, he doesn't really do anything that any person with an ounce of common sense would do.
- jmatchett383

His character is much more complex in EU. He was behind the Bothan leak that got the plans for the original death star to Princess Leia.

I think if Homer was gonna make a move, he would have done so already.

I don't think he's done all that many "day of the deadline" deals, has he?

Mason, Rosehill, Carcillo, Sestito. Bill listed them in the blog.

I like Kesler but I wouldn't qualify his position as an area of need with the makeup of the team.

I don't know what the EU is, and frankly, I'm a little disenchanted that people do.

Yea. Im not sure if Scrivens or Fasth are the answer, but they will stabilize the situation. Kind of like what Biron did for the Flyers.

So is a 26-year-old Mario Lemieux. Sadly, neither exist.

So other than Mason (for whom he only gave up Leighton), the only guys he's dealt for are tough guys.

Kesler to the Hawks would make them cup favourites IMO.

It's obvious to anybody who looks at the Flyers' roster that there's nowhere to put Ryan Kesler for the assets you'd be giving up. That's why I'll never understand the ridiculous back-and-forth that you hear about at this time of year -- what, is Ray Shero truly on his knees, saying, "Holy poop! The Flyers are gutting their youth for a 29-year-old center when they've already got too many -- better come up with another first-rounder for Vancouver!!!!"
