The upside to trading Mez for a pick means that ice time opens up for Gus.
The upside to keeping Mez is that you have pretty good blue line depth down the stretch.
And while I have been on the "Trade Mez" bandwagon all season, I don't think the team HAS TO trade him at this point. Most of his contract is paid down for this year, so it's not like you're saving a ton of money getting rid of him.
The only upside (right now) is more ice time for Gus. - johndewar
good summary
wish they would keep Mez for the playoff run and get Gus some games
it shouldn't be mutually exclusive |

Hell I'd let Gus play wing just to keep his legs going. |

Is Jake Gardiner just a younger version of Andrej Mezsaros? - Marc D
I think Gardiner is a more gifted athlete and offensive player. He's not as big though.

no gardinaer has potential to be a top 2 guy for the next decade....Mez ...not so much. - landros 2
Toronto folks say he is pretty bad at D and pretty good with the puck
I guess he has a lot of time to get better, but right now that sounds a lot like Mez |

Bryzgalov said one of the toughest things is packing, returning his rental car and getting in touch with his landlord to return the keys.
Interesting that he left out 'Saying goodbye to his teammates' - PhillySportsGuy
I wouldnt waste my breath if I was Bryz....last week one of their guys was laughing because Bryz got mad at him at practice for shooting pucks at his head on purpose....real funny when your the joke of the NHL. |

Anyone else find it funny that Minny is only 400 miles from Winnipeg?
"You don't want to go to Winnipeg, right?" Bryzgalov said. "Not many people live there, not many Russian people there. Plus it's cold. There's no excitement except the hockey. No park, no entertaining for the families, for the kids. It's going to be tough life for your family.
"I've been there for just once, maybe twice, when I play in minors. It was really cold. I used the tunnels between the buildings to get to the arena. Because it was minus 40-something. Real cold."

He's a much more explosive player. He's also a much dumber player than Mez. He's very boom or bust and he's 23. I don't see him getting a lot better at defense. He has limited upside because he's such a weak defensive player. |

Mez had that kind of buzz as a player AND he had 30+ games worth of playoff experience when he was Gardiner's age.

Mathieu Dandenault is probably the best example I can think of... Gardiner played forward up into High School too.... maybe he can be an NHL swingman. |

I get to watch him all the time....he's young....he's green....he's fast....and he's extremely talented....I hope TO does give up on him.

He probably made those comments when he was playing for the Flyers. At this point, he'll take any job he can get.
Winnipeg is cold as poop though. |

it was one of their broadcasters or ex players or someone on NHL radio after the game against CBJ last night.
guy was excited about Morgan Reilly, liked Phaneuf, and was critical of Gardiner, Franson and said Gunnerson was OK but not a real #2 guy. He thought their D needed a lot of improvement. |

I still like Mez. I hope they resign the guy.
Why sell him low when you can let him regain his form and gain value.

Gardiner does not have top pairing potential. Mez did at one point. Gardiner can't defend. There is no way he can ever play top pairing minutes. |

He's 1 year younger than Luke Schenn. You know, the guy everyone thinks has maxed out his potential. |

Why would the Flyers ask about Halak when they just re-signed their goalie for 4 more years? They wouldn't. Take these rumors with a grain of salt. |
