Trade for a Dman only.
There's a backlog @ center. Couts is basically untouchable for me. One of Schenn, Laughton, or Vinny need to be moved. Vinny is pretty much immovable.
I think they can get Big Buff, for Laughton or Hagg, a pick and a roster player. Matt Read?
Homer is just driving the price up on Kesler, last of Flyers needs. |

I thought the reasoning on trading him was Briere was coming back from injury and they wanted to keep Claude up. So in actuality you traded Scottie"too hottie" and a 2nd for Cacillo and Giroux - Deasr1
If they weren't right up against the cap, they could have kept everybody. |

Pitt is considered front runners with that offer plus there 2014 1st us pretty much a 2nd I think we can beat that easy - mydoglicks
But why would we. We dont need him. If he is the piece that has to come withe Elder, then that is fine. But I would rather a winger like Burrows come with Elder than another Center. |

If I remember correctly he had a hell of a strech with Read and Couturier for a bit.. no? I mean the guy had a couple head injuries and has been bounced around the bottom lines for a while now. I think that has more to do with his lack of points and play. - SchennBros
Yes, as I said, he had a hell of a 9 game stretch. That was well over 2 months past. I don't care what the reason is, because the bottom line is that he's been a complete liability who has hurt the team in a plethora of ways over the past 2+months.
But sure, he was good for a short run, let's keep giving him 13 minutes a night so he can turn a few more pucks over and take some more stupid needless penalties. |

That is true. But they didn't see Claude as NHL ready until he came up and played very well. |

Matt Read is too important to this team to trade for Buff. I would trade him for a better D-man, but Buff is not him. Not saying that Buff is a bad player by any means, I just don't think we could do better if we have to trade Read. In my opinion. |

As a team, you should always leave a little room to make moves and bring players up and down.
Imagine if this Flyers team didn't have the space to play Raffl?
You need to account for the unknown. |

13 minutes against other teams top lines too. The responsibilities of that third line are killing Downie. I think if he is on some other teams second line playing against limited competition he will do well. The flyers are unable to put him in that type of position on this team. He keeps playing against players that are too good at falling down the second they see he loose stick on the ice while he struggles to catch up to the play. |

Lol, and we have 5 already on the roster and one in the wings. I think Homer is just toying with Pitt. Unless Elder comes with, I don't see Kesler here for Schenn ++ |

If he doesn't find his game than you have a forward who gives the puck up, is constantly trailing the play and detrimental to your shut down line playing against other teams top units. Also he is good for 4 minutes short handed a night. He is taking confidence away from Couturier's development which could hurt our team in much worse way.
What happens if we trade him? Raffl moves up and takes his place. Couturier gets a boost on both ends of the ice. And his confidence boosts and he is the player who puts up points while shutting down Malkin.
The best case scenario of keeping Downie is a scenario in which he can be on par with what Raffl can do.
And worst case scenario is playing out on the ice as we speak. The flyers have nothing to lose by trading him. - FlyersSteve118
They lose Depth. Downie isn't as bad as your "Chicken Little" rant makes him out to be. As I said, at the very worse if he doesnt regain his form, he can be scratched for whomever you think is "better" in the minors right now. Remember before the playoff they can make call-ups. |

Can a GM really "drive up the price" on a player that they really aren't interested in? If Pittsburgh doesn't believe Holmgren will pull the trigger on a deal, I doubt Pitt ups theirs in response. I think if the Flyers actually make an offer or whatever on Kesler… it's because, for whatever reason, they actually want him. |

Actually, yes, he is that bad. I watched him closely in the NYR and Washington game as much as possible. In the Rangers game, he won exactly one board battle, and had 3 soft turnovers in his own zone on easy plays. His skating has always been an issue, but that was offset by his ability to win battles and his offensive pop. And they have been 100% nonexistent except for that short stretch at the beginning of the year.
If he's going to be scratched anyway, why not get a return for him? |

The FLyers do not need a guy like Buff on this team. They have plenty of slow guys who can shoot the puck. The flyers need mobility and two way play. |

Look at last year when they acquired Mason for a pick. That is certainly a deal that has helped the Flyers. Never know what might materialize. - MJL
I'd love another under the radar/reclamation type trade -- nothing would make me happier. If Coots, Baby Schenn and Laughton make it past this deadline, I'm cracking open a bottle of bubbly. |

In this case, Vancouver wouldn't say to Shero, "Well, Philly offered ..." they'd say something more like, "Well, we have some other offers that are enticing, and we're not sure which direction we want to go," which could cause Pittsburgh to basically bid against themselves. It absolutely can happen. |

You can't just magically make a 14th forward appear out of thin air. Downie would have to be put on waivers in order for a forward to come up from the minors. If Downie is scratched. Rosehill plays. Do you not understand that the flyers are carrying 8 defensemen and 13 forwards this year? |

I know you really don't like Downie, but I think you're being a little to harsh. I don't think the team should just give him away. If they move him, I'd like to see them get back a decent 4th liner who is signed for a few years. Someone like Talbot with more speed. |

I'd actually rather have Rosehill. He knows his role and doesn't try to be too fancy. He's actually a better skater than Downie, and if he takes a penalty, it usually isn't a stupid careless one (minus the Vancouver game). |
