um look at our roster?
- 2Real

What did you want them to do trade Schenn and Couts for an upgrade? Its a good move for the Flyers. He's not Doughty or Weber but its a good plugin for a playoff run. I will take it anyday of the week.

The point being, we don't need another guy who can't handle tough matchups -- we've already got three guys who, on any given night, who have to be hidden!

Damn it. Couldn't just do what we've almost always done at the TDL and just not do anything!

I dunno, not having a steady diet of Crosby, Nash, Malkin, Giroux, etc should improve his ability to contribute defensively for the time being.

As far as him being a long-term replacement for Kimmo? Forgetaboutit.

why not sign him this summer as a UFA and keep the picks?

I don't mind him, he will be an upgrade to some extent, for mobility alone

he does not fix the need for a top pair guy

he is being misused as a first pair guy this yr for the Isles much like the Flyers tried to do with Coburn last year

- Marc D

kimmo's done after this year and his 6 mill off the books. prob make the big spash in the summer

Is the Isles defense the worst in history? Why would they be playing him that many minutes if he's so terrible?
- PhillySportsGuy

Now we have Streit and Macdonald....hopefully they recall Gervais and re- unite the trio of ex Islanders....I'm stoked.

he also plays on the 4th worst team in the NHL with an awful defensive system
He also was playing in every situation against the top guys every single night
with us he'll be 2nd pairing, playing 18 mins or so a night, not 25+

so get outta here.

- FLYERSROCK!

I don't want to pay MacDonald $4m plus a year so that's a concern, but imagine how bad Grossmann and LSchenn's stats would be if they were the first pairing on the Islanders playing 25 minutes a night.

Idk why people are female dogging about this move....Its a decent D-man at a cheap amount dollar wise, 2nd rounder is 2015. Flyers could deal Mez and still be able to add someone decent.
- flyerfan28

The quality of this deal depends on two things

What will Mac's new deal looks like?
Will flyers move Mez or grossman to recoup picks?

Yeah I am not sold on him either, but this is what Homer does at the deadline minor tweeking..This tells me 2 things

A) The price for the "name" defensemen were ridiculous

B) As so many pointed out this means the end of somebody's career in orange and black

He must be exhausted by the end of games. Playing over 25 minutes against the best competition on a bad puck possession team.

he's not much better than what we have now and we're just going to keep giving up assets to build up our talent pool?

That's what needs to happen...I mean, FFS. Wayne Simmonds was a second-rounder. PK Subban was a second-rounder. Ryan O'Reilly. And the Godfather of All Second-Round Picks, Shea Weber was a second-rounder.

Maybe, just maybe, we should take better swings in the second round and try to get impact players there, instead of burning them on the next big thing.

Because maybe they think they can turn the defense around a bit this year and make a decent run. And hopefully get him to sign cheaper then if he hit the UFA market when he finds out how much nicer it is to play in Philly.

Schenn's stock is at an all time low. Might as well hang on to him and hope to reverts back to last year's form.

Robert Hagg was one of such swings.
A big number of top tier dmen come from the 2nd round.

I think you guys are overlooking the fact that we also gave up Matt Mangene.

But really, not a big fan. Would have preferred we not lose our 2nd.
