Because maybe they think they can turn the defense around a bit this year and make a decent run. And hopefully get him to sign cheaper then if he hit the UFA market when he finds out how much nicer it is to play in Philly.
- SchennBros

I will say I do think he helps solve the lack of balance they have, he has decent mobility

I don't think he is worth what he will ask in UFA, but we will see

2 picks for a rental is bad business these days

That's what needs to happen...I mean, FFS. Wayne Simmonds was a second-rounder. PK Subban was a second-rounder. Ryan O'Reilly. And the Godfather of All Second-Round Picks, Shea Weber was a second-rounder.

Maybe, just maybe, we should take better swings in the second round and try to get impact players there, instead of burning them on the next big thing.

Fun. Now go through the list of 2nd-round nobodies.

The Flyers are fine at forward, but are thin at defense. They traded "valuable" picks for a "valuable" player. If he plays better in Philly and gets locked up at a manageable cap hit, then it's a good move. The Flyers are clearly going to deal another d-man with the current numbers game, so they will get their 2nd or 3rd back.

he's not much better than what we have now and we're just going to keep giving up assets to build up our talent pool?
- 2Real

Don't look at it as better or worse. Look at it as different. They are trying to find a unit of defense that can ork well together. When you have a coheisive defense, having an Elite defenseman isnt as important.

Happy Luongo is going to Florida? I wonder if he shares your sentiments. Panthers can have archery practice in the stands during the games.

In addition out of all the drafts the 2015 draft is where you could probably find a player like that due to the depth. I dont understand why its not a 2014 2nd round pick.

I love 2nd Rounders which is why im kinda pissed but I do think the AMac will help the chemistry of the pairings and its a step in the right direction to finding a good mix

I wish they just kept the draft picks this year.

AMac as a rental doesn't thrill me.

I think he has a home and his family lives there, he was asking to go there all last year, which is why this is so ironic to me

I'd actually rather see Mez in the lineup a little longer. He's a monster when he's on. So is Schenn, for that matter.
