So yeah... right-handed puck-moving maven gone... for less than what we paid for a taller version of Freddy Meyer.
- Tomahawk

There are days when you just know that what you did is what you shouldn't have done, and while I have nothing against MacDonald, you knew that burning that second in a loaded draft was going to be something that you looked back at quickly and said WTF

The #blackhawks give up a second-round pick to get David Rundblad from #coyotes.

- PhillySportsGuy

And this was the IN conference price. We probably could have got him for a 3rd

The 27-year-old MacDonald, who can become an unrestricted free agent this summer, has four goals and 20 assists in 63 games this season. He leads the NHL with 198 blocked shots and is eighth in average ice time per game at 25 minutes, 25 seconds.

In 295 career NHL games over six seasons, all with the Islanders, MacDonald has 17 goals and 72 assists. He was chosen by New York in the sixth round of the 2006 draft.

What's the difference between a blind 3-way trade and a regular 3-way trade? Seriously.

Macdonald.

From what I have seen of the guy, think they overpaid for more mediocre. We shall see, but we knew that would do something.

A 2nd and a 3rd... Blah.

It's a microcosm of the two organizations... Stan at the head of the class again... Homer overpaying for Snow's dregs... again.

See, the reason you have to fire Gillis is because he let his pride get in the way of doing that deal last year.

It was always going to be that deal. Always.

But he wouldn't swallow his pride, he gives up a goalie who led the league in shutouts last year, so he could make the same deal that was always going to be there -- except you almost had to take a goalie back.

Unbelievable how bad that is. It's the worst sequence of management I've seen in years, ever since Milbury drafted Rick DiPetro so he had to move Luongo!

Cory Schneider's SVPCT since 2010-11:
.929
.936
.927
.923

Mike Gillis needs to get FIRED.

- AllInForFlyers

I don't think that is the right perspective. Things change with a team, and the direction they're going. it's never static. They may have thought that they had a contender, and wanted the proven Goalie. Now maybe they've reassessed and are going in another direction. And if Markstrom turns out to be the real deal then they've done well.

Yeah, a full top-6 of fancy-pants two-way puck-movers... nobody can go into PO's w/ that blueline. Needs more truculence.

Terrible trade by the Yotes. Not enough of a return and trading him to a team in the same conference that is already stacked. They're going to regret that trade for a long time.
- hereticpride

I already regret it. I think most people would rather have traded a 2nd for Rundblad, a 23 year old offensive DMan who won't see UFA for a few years over trading 2 picks for a guy who will be a UFA in 20 games having a career season.

The Rundblad trade makes the Macdonald trade look very bad.
