i am. hell id move a pick for him from a pens perspective and they dont even really need him. i just cant see how he has fallen to only be worth a low second.
- stayinthefnnet

That's why the hawks win cups and the flyers are chasing... A (frank)ing second? Come on homer you should be fired.... Brainless and stupid moves this org makes is what keeps them from winning cups. Can't believe they picked McDonald now...

I already regret it. I think most people would rather have traded a 2nd for Rundblad, a 23 year old offensive DMan who won't see UFA for a few years over trading 2 picks for a guy who will be a UFA in 20 games having a career season.

The Rundblad trade makes the Macdonald trade look very bad.

- Flyers_01

Runblad would have been the way to go imo. I'll wait to see Macdonald play, but really think Holmgren has lost his touch. Loves that mediocrity, and overpaying for it.

Isn't overpaying players one of the reasons the flyers keep bumping against the cap ceiling?
- Flyers_01

What's an overpayment is subjective. The Flyers are always going to be a team that is up against the Cap. And that's where I want them to operate.

The biggest thing for the Flyers, though, is that the guy is EXACTLY what they don't have -- a right-handed defenseman who can skate, move a puck.

I'm not saying the guy's the love child of Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey. But it does piss you off, when the Flyers haven't had a guy like that since Eric Desjardins retired, that you don't find a way to take a chance on a guy like that.

It's frustrating. Not because I know David Rundblad will or won't work. But because you don't even have a guy like that in the system, he wasn't playing in Phoenix, and you don't find a way to find out if he can help you.

Instead, you fall back to a guy like MacDonald, who isn't going to kill you, but gives no indication that he's going to help you in the way that a riskier pick would!

It's a microcosm of the two organizations... Stan at the head of the class again... Homer overpaying for Snow's dregs... again.
- Tomahawk

I don't even think the MacDonald trade is that bad. Not very good, but not bad. I'm just getting burnt out on these secondary defenders and roleplayers we keep trading for.

What is? That the Hawks tap danced on Holmgren's forehead?

How in the world does that have anything to do with Holmgren?

Mathieu Brisebois... TWO right-handed puck-moving dmen for one 2nd-round pick... this is just straight trolling.

Haha even better. Macdonald is due to be a UFA in the summer.

You can smell that overpayment coming. Or you waste a 2nd and 3rd for a rental.

I don't think that is the right perspective. Things change with a team, and the direction they're going. it's never static. They may have thought that they had a contender, and wanted the proven Goalie. Now maybe they've reassessed and are going in another direction. And if Markstrom turns out to be the real deal then they've done well.
- MJL

Well, if my perspective isn't right, at least I know I share it with pretty much every NHL analyst out there, including guys like Ray Ferraro, etc., who share my perspective

Why did it have to be and/or... Homer could have had both. Phoenix might not have approached him about Rundblad.

Wouldn't it be funny if Rundblad still isn't in the NHL next year and MacDonald is a solid, top 4 defenseman on this team?

Not saying I think the MacDonald deal is great, but Rundblad is an unknown at this point.

Flyers going after Kesler
TheFourthPeriod.com

The Philadelphia Flyers have significant interest in Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler and have offered a "significant package" in order to get him.
According to a league source, the Flyers have presented the Canucks with a "big offer" for Kesler, who is expected to be moved by Wednesday's 3pm ET trade deadline.

The Canucks are interested in Flyers forwards Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier, and want one of them included in a deal for Kesler.
Canucks GM Mike Gillis is also interested in prospects Scott Laughton and Samuel Morin.

Kesler, who has a no-trade clause, is willing to accept a trade to the Flyers, as well as the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings, both of whom have also inquired about his availability.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings also expressed interest in Kesler, but the Canucks will not deal him to either team, while the Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets have been told Kesler will not waive his no-trade clause to go there.

Late Monday night, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported the Penguins have offered center Brandon Sutter, a pick of young defensemen Simon Despres or Brian Dumoulin, a 2014 first-round draft pick and a 2014 third-round pick in exchange for Kesler.

Penguins GM Ray Shero is willing to up his offer, if need be.

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren has also discussed Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler, who has a no-trade clause
