What would it take for you guys to give up coots? B. Schenn? I'm not as high on coots as everyone else seems to be. |

The biggest thing for the Flyers, though, is that the guy is EXACTLY what they don't have -- a right-handed defenseman who can skate, move a puck.
I'm not saying the guy's the love child of Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey. But it does piss you off, when the Flyers haven't had a guy like that since Eric Desjardins retired, that you don't find a way to take a chance on a guy like that.
It's frustrating. Not because I know David Rundblad will or won't work. But because you don't even have a guy like that in the system, he wasn't playing in Phoenix, and you don't find a way to find out if he can help you.
Instead, you fall back to a guy like MacDonald, who isn't going to kill you, but gives no indication that he's going to help you in the way that a riskier pick would! - AllInForFlyers

How in the world does that have anything to do with Holmgren?
- MJL
Has everything to do with it...McDonald for a second or third when rundblad is available for a second? That's what happens when the org is asleep at the wheel |

I don't even think the MacDonald trade is that bad. Not very good, but not bad. I'm just getting burnt out on these secondary defenders and roleplayers we keep trading for. - BulliesPhan87
I'm willing to see if Holmgren has something else lined up to recoup one of those picks before I make a judgement. Right now, I'm very "meh" on this deal.
Serious question -- why hasn't David Rundblad had a regular NHL role yet?
This is the 2nd time he's been traded by an NHL organization and he turned 23 almost 4 months ago. |

The 2nd isn't even in 2015.. It's this year in the weaker draft. |

Wouldn't it be funny if Rundblad still isn't in the NHL next year and MacDonald is a solid, top 4 defenseman on this team?
Not saying I think the MacDonald deal is great, but Rundblad is an unknown at this point. - PhillySportsGuy
The bigger thing that pisses me off with Macdonald is he is set to be a UFA. So Holmgren will be forced to open the pocket book for yet more mediocrity, or risk wasting a 2nd/3rd for a rental.
Its not the end of the world by any means. However to me, Holmgren shouldn't be guiding this team anymore. |

Well, if my perspective isn't right, at least I know I share it with pretty much every NHL analyst out there, including guys like Ray Ferraro, etc., who share my perspective - AllInForFlyers
If Ray Ferraro was that good in evaluating player moves, he'd be a GM instead of posting on Twitter. The end product is what matters.

Flyers going after Kesler
TheFourthPeriod.com
The Philadelphia Flyers have significant interest in Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler and have offered a "significant package" in order to get him.
According to a league source, the Flyers have presented the Canucks with a "big offer" for Kesler, who is expected to be moved by Wednesday's 3pm ET trade deadline.
Aweful trade if they make that.
The Canucks are interested in Flyers forwards Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier, and want one of them included in a deal for Kesler.
Canucks GM Mike Gillis is also interested in prospects Scott Laughton and Samuel Morin.
Kesler, who has a no-trade clause, is willing to accept a trade to the Flyers, as well as the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings, both of whom have also inquired about his availability.
The Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings also expressed interest in Kesler, but the Canucks will not deal him to either team, while the Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets have been told Kesler will not waive his no-trade clause to go there.
Late Monday night, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported the Penguins have offered center Brandon Sutter, a pick of young defensemen Simon Despres or Brian Dumoulin, a 2014 first-round draft pick and a 2014 third-round pick in exchange for Kesler.
Penguins GM Ray Shero is willing to up his offer, if need be.
Flyers GM Paul Holmgren has also discussed Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler, who has a no-trade clause - mydoglicks |

The lone concern with Rundblad is that he's with his 4th franchise...but Jesus, he was had for far less than MacDonald and he's something the Flyers really lack. |

The problem here is that McDonald, before playing a single second in a Flyers uniform, is considered to be mediocre. I'm wondering if Holmgren, and the Flyers professional pro scouting department, are aware that McDonald is a mediocre player?

You are onto something. Macdonald is an NHLer, if not a fancy point producer. Rundblad could still very much be a strikeout. The Flyers need proven bodies on D next year, and hey, they got one with some wheels. Recoup the picks by trading Grossmann, Downie or Mesz and call it a day. I wont even mention how much cap room that creates... |
