I suppose.

Gonna be a long night of speculation regarding tomorrow's moves. Are you and your helmet ready?

Haha

I'd like to see them roll the dice on a guy like Rundblad. It's mutually exclusive from MacDonald, though. Just pointing out being mad at MacDonald because they didn't land Rundblad is kind of dumb.

- Jsaquella

prepare for that to be the case for the indeterminate future

Lots of guys don't crack lineups with their original teams and go on to be very good players...the list is too long to name, and yes, there are more players who don't make it, but just because the guy didn't crack Phoenix's lineup doesn't mean much, at 23 years of age

Braydon Coburn wouldn't be here if he had cracked Atlanta's lineup

- AllInForFlyers

Coburn was 21 when he became a regular in the Flyers lineup though. Rundblad hasn't grabbed the bull by the horns per se!

Yea. There are a number of defensman who develop at different paces, but most good defenseman demonstrate glimpses of what they could be in the NHL.

Not sure if Rundblad hasn't gotten the opportunity or just hasn't taken advantage of the opportunity.

I just don't understand the outrage over not acquiring him. Its not like the Bruins traded Dougie Hamilton for a 2nd.

- PhillySportsGuy

i think the evaluation of the mcdonald deal should be taken on its own merit, and not viewed through the runblad deal. that being said, im pissed he only went for a second.

Exactly. Phoenix is chock-full of young D... and Tippett had a clear bias for other guys.

Now that I think about it, I look at the way they've handled Gus, and I'm thinking that the Flyers probably wouldn't have given him a fair shot either.

He's definitely better off with a team that values possession.

Yes, but Coburn was handed a spot in Philadelphia, because of how horrific we were.

Rundblad hasn't taken a spot, true. But it's not like Braydon Coburn had to beat out Ekman-Larsson and Keith Yandle to get a spot, either

Homer asleep at the wheel. If they did trade for rundblad they could have used it as leverage to get McDonald.

They do need guys like MacDonald. He's a two-way defenseman with mobility. This team is in dire need of defenseman who can do more than one good thing.

The Flyers aren't really in the position to break in a good defenseman. You want to pair Rundblad with Schenn or Grossman or Streit or Mez?

- PhillySportsGuy

Let me start off by saying I wasn't too thrilled to see the Mac trade even before I knew about the Runbland deal. I just feel as if we shouldn't be giving up 2nd rounders for patches. Who knows, maybe Mac will be the balance that this defense needs and they will start playing as a cohesive unit. But if I'm being realistic, I have to assume we just gave up two picks for a guy we might not have after this year (And if we do resign him it will probably be at a number we won't be comfortable with if it's true he already turned down the 4 for 4 offer)

I would have been much more content if the Flyers just sold away our UFAs, maybe even Grossmann, let the kids continue to grow and use those picks to continue to stock the farm. I'm of the opinion that we need to be looking at the future of this team more than the present.

I'm not worked up at all. I'm simply discussing a move that happened and that I would have liked my team to have been involved.

Rundbld might be a bust. They've scouted MacDonald, and feel he will stabilize their defense. Nobody knows if Rundblad can or would do that. I'd just like to see them roll the dice on a guy like that.

- Jsaquella

Yeah, we agree. I'm just in a bad mood.

I disagree with the first comment. As for the second question, I don't want to pair anyone with Grossmann.

He doesn't have to beat out OEL or Yandle.

Im not saying he's not going to be good. I just think he's very risky and I would guess he's not going to pan out as much more than a 3rd pairing guy.

I agree about not wanting to give up assets. I don't like the move unless they re-sign MacDonald, he plays well and they are able to trade Mez or Grossmann for a pick.
