Look at that male pattern balding already happening. Don't want that on the Flyers.

Cape Breton isn't even a bad team.

Does Halifax play Rimouski again this year? That'd be a fun matchup.

Edit: no

I feel like he'll be better in a more limited role. Imagine Matt Carle logging big minutes as a #1? It would be a disaster. As a 2nd pairing guy, he's a nice addition. I'm hoping MacDonald can be like that.
- PhillySportsGuy

And that's a good point. Put him on a better team in a different role, where he's not facing the best competition every game, and he's a better player. Rather then being overmatched as a top pair defenseman.

Exactly. Phoenix is chock-full of young D... and Tippett had a clear bias for other guys.

Now that I think about it, I look at the way they've handled Gus, and I'm thinking that the Flyers probably wouldn't have given him a fair shot either.

He's definitely better off with a team that values possession.

we have a few two-way defensemen. And if we need more, and are going to pay a guy nearly $5M for more than 3 years, which is what is being bandied about, I want more than Andy MacDonald. We need to get rid of our one dimensional shot blocking, hot-potato defenseman and pick up some real talent. And we need to use our assets in a smart way to better achieve that.
- wilsonecho91

The only real two way defenseman the Flyers have is Timonen. And he's likely retiring. This deal shouldn't be looked at from the perspective that this is the rebuild, and this is the main solution to fixing the issues with the defense. Because in my opinion, this isn't it. This is just one move. More to come.
I don't think that the Flyers are going to get the player you have in mind for the picks they gave to get McDonald.

absolutely regarding getting those players for these picks. As mentioned, was thinking you use those picks in addition to other assets to acquire those players.

What would it take to add Gilbert from Florida. Do you think they would take Gorssman? The Panthers only have 2 current roster signed Dman signed for next year

It makes sense to pair MacDonald with Streit, but the fact the Flyers have so much redundancy on the blue line it might not be possible. Schenn/Grossmann is a disaster. 2 mastodons that have zero mobility. I hope the Flyers trade a dman tomorrow so Gustafsson can get a chance at being a regular, giving the Flyers more balance on the back end.
