Scary mobility for sure....maybe Holmgren has more up his sleeve...
- landros 2

I think it's likely, although we may see the pairs suggested earlier, or even something like these:

44-5
8-32
47-22

I believe they had every intention of re-signing him from the moment they made the trade, but if he comes in and is horrible, maybe that changes. Of course, they can afford to re-sign him quickly, at least right now, because they have the tagging room.

it's possible they re-sign him soon after the TDL

- Jsaquella

Yea. It would really go against normal Flyer business to trade picks for a rental. They never let money stand in the way of signing a player they like.

Schenn has played at a top 4 level in multiple Seasons in his career to this point, Unfortunately there has been an every other year pattern where he has regressed.
- MJL

yeah, I suppose that's what I meant ... I'm hopeful that Schenn will consistently be a top 4 D man. Actually, I believe he will be.

Did you see/hear anything about him turning down a $4M/yr extension? I only saw it mentioned here.

That would make sense. He's worth at least 4.5M. Probably more.

Homer's going out with a bang ... mark it down. Crazy ass trades all day tomorrow.

- FlyerGuy

Honestly, I will be okay trading the entire back end, even sitting in the position they are in right now lol... maybe..

I believe the same. And I hope we turn out correct. His inconsistency from year to year is frustrating. And he pisses me off sometimes when he plays passively. Such as on the Orlov goal against the Caps.

Nope. He's maxed out as a 7th dman. Hes a poor man's Kent Huskins

I saw it in Newsday. He was offered a 4 year/$16mm deal, but suggestions were made that it wasn't the cash, he was less enamored of the organization.

We can talk about how many writers missed the opportunity to drag out E-I-E-I-O jokes after the trade today

What about how many Happy Meals he will serve?

That's true. I guess the term is going to be in the 5 year, 4.5-5.0 range. I guess that's the going rate for players of MacDonald's ilk.

He isn't void of skill, but he's not a difference maker. There is no arguing he's an upgrade over what's currently on hand.

Yea. I think it will take $5M. The market for defenseman is going to be crazy. It might be better off for the Flyers to make the deal now rather than wait for FA.

If they just wanted a rental, they could have snagged a guy like Mike Weaver, who is similar(at least short term) to MacDonald and cost the Habs a 5th

I could see him get between $4mm-$5mm, doubt he gets as much AAV as Streit, but at least he'll get $4mm

Yea. MacDonald makes sense for now and the long term. Frankly, I'd be a little upset if they used two picks to get a rental.

The Isles only shopped him because he didn't want to re-sign.
