Matt Read is too important to this team to trade for Buff. I would trade him for a better D-man, but Buff is not him. Not saying that Buff is a bad player by any means, I just don't think we could do better if we have to trade Read. In my opinion.

Unrelated but you just reminded me of something... my friend thought for about 15 years that the thing you use to help get your shoe on was in fact called a "Shoe-on" rather than a Shoe-horn. His relatives were from Arkansas, so maybe their accent threw him off. I couldn't stop laughing when he said the word and I corrected him... and he was in shock.

Matt Read is a 3rd line forward who's good for 20 goals a season, plays top PK minutes, can play on any line at any position, plays on the PP, and is probably the fastest skater on the team.

So, for a "3rd line forward like Matt Read", no. For a 3rd line forward like last season's Gagne, sure.

Read +picks +other prospects isn't going to land you a top Dman. Maybe a top 9 fwd, but then why move Reader + for a top 9 player in the 1st place?

Just cause he is a 3rd liner on our team doesn't mean he's a 3rd line player. Kimmo is our #1 dman, but he is not a #1 dman. I'm not even sure if Buff is a #1 dman.

For the standard "roster player + 1st rounder + prospect" template price that most top players go for, yes, Read will get you a top player in the right deal.

Hahaha

Downie was a key part of the 3rd line when the team started to get back on track in November. But since Christmas he's been god awful. No goals and 4 assists in 22 games, plus a truck load of bad penalties.

Trading him for a pick would improve the team right away.

What about his game, aside from that short stretch, has shown you that he's capable of playing way out of a funk. He's actually been getting worse, and since the TDL, he's been even worse. I'd take any return for him. If we want a slow forward who won't win any board battles and will take stupid penalties, we can call up Newbury.
