As I've said multiple times previously. I would've had no issue if the Flyers had taken a chance on Runblad. My issue is the criticism of Holmgren because he traded for McDonald over choosing Runblad. Which player better meets the immediate needs of the team? One player is an established NHL player, the other is a question mark.

i think they both fill holes that are desperately needed on the blue line. Rundblad more of a future hole that will be created. Lets face it, we have no one offensively talented on that line other than streit. Next year when Timmo is gone that will be a even bigger hole to fill. Have to start taking chances on some of these guys like rundblad. Him and mac both fill holes on that blue line. My only gripe is homer fell asleep at the wheel. THey should have been looking to upgrade depth. Lets face it even with macdonald this teams not even close to contending for a cup.

MacDonald is alright offensively. Timonen still has offensive ability. We have Ghost in the minors. Johnny Gudreau's dad said Ghost is the best player in college hockey right now.

They can also upgrade that area in FA.

It would have been nice to add Rundblad for very little, but its not the end of the world. He's 23 and hasn't nailed down an NHL roster spot.

If they win, I don't care who was traded to get there.

The problem is when they don't win.

That's one issue I have with the current philosophy - they usually make deals at the expense of the farm. Oh well, I don't have a say in it; just have to swallow hard and hope for the best.

Runblad doesn't fill any hole on the blueline. He is not an established NHL player. He adds to the prospect base. He may never become an established NHL player. Or he may become a really good defenseman. But getting Runblad doesn't fill the hole left with Timonen leaving. And maybe, the Flyers don't like Runblad and therefore had no interest. Just because they didn't trade for a prospect, doesn't mean the GM was asleep at the wheel, just because he didn't trade for a player that some wanted him to trade for. To fan's he's just a name and a player that some have a little background on. To a NHL team, he's a player that scouts and other talent evaluators have seen and watched play.

Probably. So long as they trade Grossmann.
