Thought Clemmensen would have made a good backup to Lack, but I guess he has a ntc and it was easier for Florida to waive him.

I just hope this one doesn't turn into a controversy too.

Western Canada is a joke right now.
- Nucker101

is edmontons tandem the best in western canada now??? (winnipeg included)

i think van's potential from their two is unquestionably the highest, but as of today, i think maybe edmonton gets the nod

hard to call potential as hes 26. but he shows flashes with that skating and size.

i think he can be an extremely effective 2nd liner. mediocre 3rd liner is abit harsh i think

I'm not too impressed with any of his numbers and from the handful of games I've seen him play. Markstrom intrigues me more.

Agreed. I still want him gone but this might be his shining moment. Of course, when you realize he's the one that signed that contract to begin with he's more of an Even Steven.
- AlexF

oh I hate Gillis,I think he's eroded the depth of the team and ruined the Canucks chances at winning a cup, and he never should have signed Luongo to that contract, but to get out of it and still get something back, and with Lack's play this year, I think right now it has to be considered a win today. Factor in schneider and maybe it's not good, but Horvat won't be a known commodity for a few more years.

VAN is taking back money on Luongo's contract. It varies in amounts each year. Around $1M (ballpark) for each of first four years.

Thought some on here were saying it was all or nothing with the same amount for the duration of the remaining contract.

crazy stuff.

So it's 15% of actual salary per year then? Basically after the first 4 years it turns into like 200K-300K after?

Lou took the high road for the last 2 years. Van. treated him like crap.

Maybe it is actual salary and not cap hit... Wondering if all these trades have been approved by the NHL?

I like the trade and am happy Luongo gets his wish in the end and gets to go to Florida.

Matthias is a solid 3rd line center, kind of a less talented Kesler. Markstrom has huge upside, this kid is a good goaltender, might take a couple more years for him to get there.

What really worries me though, is every time we think we have made a good trade with Florida, it bites us in the butt!!

Ballard - Yikes!!!
Booth- We thought we won that trade when it happened!!
Santorelli- Well, free agent and he has been a bright spot, although injured.
Matthias and Markstrom - Jury is out on this one.

If this one doesn't work out, Gillis should be boycotted from trading with the Panthers lol.

He's still got a ton of potential even at 26...tough to develop properly on a team like Florida ..I have really liked what I have seen from him

Well I guess there's your answer why Lu didn't play in the heritage game. Gotta think this deal was in the works for a little while.

Congrats to Lu. Well deserved to have something good finally happen to him.

To summarize, Schneider & Luongo were traded for a 1st round pick (Bo Horvat), Jacob Markstrom and (reportedly) Shawn Matthias

Wow.

People are applauding this misguided ship still.

I didn't like the Shcneider deal, I was starting to accept it and move on but if this deal was available last summer why not just keep Schneider?

LMAO. No one's applauding this org. Just saying this deal was arguably the best that could have been on the day. I think we're better for it.

Gillis should still have been fired last summer and this doesn't change that.

It is kind of funny, but I think FA has had much influence in these decisions.

Stating the obvious, Gillis does not have a good track record with trades and Florida- Ballard, Booth and this.
