Lu is an aging goalie that has a bad contract.
Florida gave up a good young goalie and an established nhl player.

As it was agreed to in the CBA & ratified by both the NHL & NHLPA there is no recourse for a challenge in the courts either in Canada or the US.

At first I thought that Lu not playing the HC was because there was a trade on the table, but it sounds like that isn't the case now...

I really think the clause will not hold in a few years. Legal contracts signed in good faith are not deemed illegal. There has to be a legal challenge for it if it actually hurts a team. There are ways around it too. See Pronger.

I still think Matthias and Markstrom have the potential to be contributing NHLers, and at their ages, they can likely still return.
