1. Jesus Christ, the only alternative was a buy-out.
2. Raymond?
3. Franny is more then likely one of the major problems himself - Whiskey-Tango
Raymond has 17 goals & 36 pts in Tor. That would put him 2nd on the Cnaucks in goals & 4th in pts. |

So what? He needed a change from the Canucks, and the Canucks needed a change from him.

He's not playing for the Canucks. If he was (and he did for a long while) he wouldn't be putting up those numbers. |

Must be nice to play in the east..... How does it feel to know that Bos and Pits are the only teams in the east with a chance against the top teams in the west

He's been good for the leafs but the last two years he was t really producing. I'm sure the fact nobody offered him a contract would be incentive for him to try harder this year. |

Funny is how he disappears in the playoffs... especially against the top teams in the west. - SMP8719
Well Vancouver won't have to worry abut how players perform in the playoff's this year.
Asset management by Gillis has been terrible. |

My question... Does amount retained with Luongo off the roster lessen the recapture number (based on cap benefit while he was here)? - DrChristianTroy
CapGeek thinks it does lessen recapture. Said they'd have an update in the next couple days.
I think it has to alter it as recapture is based on cap savings. The cap hit Vancouver retains would subtract from the savings we already saw. That's likely a Gillman special right there. A big F U to Gary Bettman. |

Could turn out incredibly well. Could all go to sh*t. Will take a few years to find out for sure. - KB3Point0
Problem as I see it is that Gillis is just making these moves in the fly. He's never stemmed to have a blueprint on what he's trying to do.
I can guarantee that he wasn't sitting there a year ago planning on getting rid if both goalies. |

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie · 5m
VAN is taking back money on Luongo's contract. It varies in amounts each year. Around $1M (ballpark) for each of first four years.
Thought some on here were saying it was all or nothing with the same amount for the duration of the remaining contract.
crazy stuff. - hillbillydeluxe
They aren't allowed to retain salary in some years and not in others. If they retain salary in one year they have to retain salary in every year. Perhaps they're allowed to retain an identical percentage for the duration, not just a dollar value. Would make sense considering how small the dollar value is in the final 3 seasons. |

Ya....how much faith would you give him to accomplish that on the Canucks?
How long did we wait for him to have a single decent season?
He would not have resigned with us at league min.
Torts would have crucified him....

Vancouver has turned Luongo and Schneider into Matthias, Markstrom, Horvat in 10 months. Terrible asset management and the whole goalie situation wasn't dealt right from the beginning. That being said, I do have SOME hope that Markstrom can be a decent NHL goalie, but not too sure about the others that they've gotten in return. This will be a very interesting next 20 hours or so in Vancouver. - blahman20
Yeah but Lack Markstrom > Reimer Bernier
Mathias > Bolland Kadri and Bozo
Horvat > Leafs |

I believe it was Dreger who said last year, a few days before the draft, that neither Schneider or Luongo would be Canucks by this upcoming draft.
Nice guarantee though! |

With being an rfa, minimum qualifying offers and such, I am not sure if the Canucks could have worked out keeping him and signing other players needed.
Great bargain for the Leafs but it wasn't working out in Vancouver. What is the emoticon for it is what it is? |
