Hopefully the Flyers can bottle the 3rd period and start the game with that kind of fury.
I'm interested to see if MacDonald gets in the line-up tonight. - Jsaquella
Setting a team record for 3rd period comeback wins is great and all but it would be nice to see them carry a lead into the 3rd. |

I'd really like to see Mez and Downie moved for whatever value they have, but if we don't do anything else I won't be mad.
If Cory Conacher somehow fell to us on waivers, Homer definitely should have claimed him. Then we can definitely trade Downie. |

Gentlemen,
Missed the party yesterday, but I love this move. MacDonald should fit in well.
Also leaves the door open to a trade of Meszaros or Grossman (probably Meszaros)
This is the move for which I hoped. |

Would you guys claim Conacher? He can skate and might fit well on the 3rd line. They could then get rid of Downie which seemingly would be addition by subtraction. |

The move itself isn't terrible, but seeing as Chicago got Rundblad and another RH defenseman for their second (which would be worse than our second), it's definitely an overpayment. |

I would consider it, but he's not a replacement for Downie. |

Not sure I want Conacher matched up against other team's best lines. He's not really suited for 4th line duty either. He's more of a guy who needs to be in the top 6 to be effective. Unless we're moving Vinny, I don't see that happening. |

I'd probably slot him on the third line, but he's not going to be the physical presence or agitator Downie can be when he's on his game |

Glad you're back.
If they re-sign him and recoup one of those picks, its not that bad. I think the Rundblad deal tells more about how much he's fallen off than how much the Flyers overpaid. |

I don't see how it's an overpayment for MacDonald, who is a bonafide established NHL defenseman. Neither of the players Chicago got are. |

You are probably right. Not much space in the top 6 on the Flyers. The Flyers probably have up to 10 forwards they are legitimate top 6. All three forwards on the first three lines and Raffl.
He seemed like a really promising young player with TBL. I guess he was playing with more talent there. |

Yeah. Im sure Ottawa exhausted all options before waiving him. If he goes unclaimed by the entire league, that would be a huge red flag. Reminds me a bit of the Briere situation in Phoenix. |

/looks at Mez - johndewar
I realize Grossman is the one thats signed out. But really if we deal Mez right now what do we have? We have weakened the offense from the back end, not really changing the mix at all. We gave up a 2nd rounder and a 3rd rounder to not change the mix, getting a little stronger in our own end (was that the problem?)
I'd rather keep Mez for the playoff run on the 3rd pairing where he is most effective, risk losing him in UFA after throwing him a lowball 1 or 2 year deal.
Dealing Grossman changes the mix from what we've talked about. Should be able to recoup the 3rd and a later pick also.
So in essence we've brought in Macdonald who blocks a hell of a lot of shots (biggest part of Grossman's game) while adding way more mobility, the cost is exchanging a 2nd rounder for lets say a 5th rounder.

Yes and no.
I like Rundblad, and longterm, he projects to be a quality defenseman.
This move means Homer wants to get in playoffs this season, not take on another dman with a learning curve.
Yes--the Flyers payed more up front, and have more immediate value.
Chicago got the better deal long-term.
But Homer might not get "long-term" with an angry Mr. Snider breathing down his neck. |
