Sami Vatanen anyone? I hope Homer is looking at this. Play him with Timonen just like in the Olympics ... unfortunately I dont think Homer is looking at this. - justahockeyguy2
Vatanen isn't going to be moved for future assets. They will want a player to help them win now. |

I'm sure everyone is looking; they probably just don't like the price. Young, right-handed puck mover? I'm sure the conversation starts at 1st-rounder, and doesn't end there. |

Wow. So this could be for Callahan and 2 firsts.
What if the Lightning beat the Rangers in the conference final? - PhillySportsGuy
Callahan wanted too much money and too long a term, so they were going to lose him. I think they're more dangerous this season and next with St Louis. |

They just got a perennial 30 goal 50 assist player... it definitely helps them big time. - jak521
Callahan scores goals at about the same clip... so you're looking at what, 5-6 more projected assists over 20-games? Is that margin worth potentially 2 firsts? |

Prob isn't that's why I want him gone. He is blind when it comes to skilled guys. He only sees the mucker and grinders. Take the blinders off. |

Its a pretty big risk. They could end up losing 2 first round picks and not winning a cup. |

Oh I know most definitely.. the only way I see this happening is moving the Schenn Bros, a first rounder and maybe a decent prospect with some upside. |

He makes them better on paper, but Callahan is a very good all around player. Someone will need to fill his role and it won't be St. Louis. |

I hate all the people tweeting about how the flyers need to make a trade cause of the St.Louis deal...never should a organization make a deal to counter act someone else deal...You have a game plan to build your franchise and you stick with it |

Wait.. Callahan has cracked 25 goals once, and never 30.
Marty is practically a perennial 30+ goal guy who makes a living with skill and finesse.
Is it a bad trade in the long term, yes, I already said that. But in the short term, it definitely makes the Rags more dangerous.
They have a very good defense, great goaltending, already dangerous offense (cant bury the puck like we already said) and now they are adding one of the best play makers over the past 15 years... |

Great job by rags to destroy the chemistry AGAIN(see Nash trade). They just don't learn. - EastBeast18
Won't destroy chemistry at all ...MSL is one of the best in the game at adjusting his game to his linemates...Rangers got a whole lot better short term. |

I dont know why you trade your captain at the deadline. Even if contract negotiations go bad he is still worth having around for the remainder of the season. Trading away two picks for a guy who is marginally better does nothing for your team and is just as bad as losing your captain to FA.
This is the dumbest trade ever. But I love it cause I hate both of these teams. |

I guess they figure they weren't going to meet Callahan's contract demands, and they get St. Louis for next year as well. |
