I guess they figure they weren't going to meet Callahan's contract demands, and they get St. Louis for next year as well. - PLindbergh31
I can understand that part, but the picks are pretty bad. |

Sami Vatanen anyone? I hope Homer is looking at this. Play him with Timonen just like in the Olympics ... unfortunately I dont think Homer is looking at this. - justahockeyguy2

If Gus is sent to Phantoms he has to pass re-entry waivers to be called back up right? If no one is moved the Flyers are going to have Gus, Gill, and Meszaros as healthy scratches? Doesn't make any sense.
I suppose they can just waive Gill, but still. - PLindbergh31
There is no such thing as re-entry waivers anymore. |

Seems to be the plan....I would love to be a fly on the wall at Flyers PR...wonder if they sit around a computer and laugh at some of the poop that "insiders" say the flyers are involved in |

Wait.. Callahan has cracked 25 goals once, and never 30.
Marty is practically a perennial 30+ goal guy who makes a living with skill and finesse.
Is it a bad trade in the long term, yes, I already said that. But in the short term, it definitely makes the Rags more dangerous.
They have a very good defense, great goaltending, already dangerous offense (cant bury the puck like we already said) and now they are adding one of the best play makers over the past 15 years... - jak521
Difference between a 20-25 goal-scorer to a 30-35 goal-scorer is what... 2 projected goals in the remaining games? Those better be game-winners considering what they gave up to get him.
That's also not taking into account all the little stuff that Callahan does on and off the ice.
I dunno, I think they're better, but I don't think it swings power in the East. If they had just added Marty for picks and kept Callahan? That would be scary. |

If they get out of the east and make it to the SCFs this year the picks are worth it
The east is wide open with the injuries in Pitt and Boston to key defenseman
Not saying they will but St Louis is still a deadly goal scorer
2 firsts is a lot though
They are kind of like Philly a bit going all in

What about the playoffs? I think in the short term, it's a good deal for both sides. Long term it obviously favors TB. |

Marty's definitely makes them better in the PO's, but I still don't imagine that it puts them in a league with the B's & Pens -- assuming those two teams don't somehow make moves of their own. |
