Not from me -- I actually think that will work. Schenn plays better with a more mobile partner. If MacDonald isn't as horrific in his own zone as Meszaros can be, it should be OK.

Again: I don't love what the Flyers paid for another bottom-pair defenseman. But at the same time, if you won't play Gus and Meszaros has questions every game, then at least doing something to help steady Luke Schenn is something that I can understand and endorse.

- AllInForFlyers

It does work in theory. A mobile guy who can move the puck a bit, and a physical stay at home type. Thing is if MacDonald turns the puck over a lot, Schenn is going to get exposed.

There's a report out there from Vancouver that the team's ownership doesn't want to move Kesler until the summer, because while the season looks lost -- and it probably is -- they're still only two points out and playoff revenue matters
- AllInForFlyers

Maybe two western Canadian brothers could help fill seats?

Grossmann seems like a good fit for San Jose. You even talked about their need for a crease clearer. They have the possession guys on D to help offset his poor puck handling.
- PhillySportsGuy

exactly the sharks biggest issue they have is clearing the front of the net for niemi and stalock they have demers and boyle who'd work well with him
Boyle Vlassic
Demers Grossman
Stuart Braun

Irwin and Hannan would be the ones left out

So...how do we get Kesler AND Edler done? They each have a $5MM cap hit.
Would B.Schenn, Mez, Cobie, and a 1st get it done? Do you add Laughton and drop the pick by a round or two? Does Vancouver balk at that? Would we rather send the Schenn bros and keep Cobie? Hmmm .....

- section32

B. Schenn is Kesler in a few years if you look at his numbers and his play.. just without the salary right now, so if you trade B schenn is should be for a need...and Kesler is not a need..

They passed on Larsen for free, Rundblad for a fraction of a 2nd... Vatanen won't be on their radar.

San Jose has flat stated they won't take limited guys like Grossmann. They're fully embracing analytics and skating.

I hope GMs paid attention to what happens when you over value your players for too long.

3rd pairing minutes will help with the turnovers. Schenn isn't Grossmann. He's capable of making outlet passes. They will be a fine third pairing. I wouldn't be surprised if they overtake Grossman-Streit at some point.

Vatanen is in a different class than Rundblad Larsen and McNab.

I guess we'll see what happens in the playoffs without a big guy.

As long as the abomination that is MacDonald/Grossmann is never allowed to see the light of day, it's a win.

The numbers don't make them equal. Kesler is a bigger meaner player than Schenn. Kesler also better at the two way game as well.

The only "need" is if you believe that you can win now. If not, then you pass and hope the price is too high for the Pens. But we know how Mr. Snider is with winning now. And we have a GM that may not be able to wait a few years more.

Not to the Flyers... they're only interested in puck-movers if they're a) over 30, or b) in the midst of a career season.

I can see Mez being traded for the picks that the Flyers gave up in getting Mac.

I think you're right -- it might be just be a fourth. But they gotta move somebody off the back end, and it'll probably be him, and it might not be for much

Which we would be fortunate to get considering he wasn't worth a bag of pucks last summer.

I don't care if we get him or not.

But lets be realistic. Schenn has not shown much in his career to be compared to Kesler. That's just wishful thinking.

I get this strange feeling the Flyers won't be dealing anyone.
