So they overpay just to spend up to the cap?

Really would've rather traded Gross than Mez. Now the MacDonald acquisition seems a little more pointless. Add some mobility, and then subtract it again.
- JAKEw1234

You know they didn't plan on using Mez, right?

AMAC has as much or more mobility than Mez, but he's better defensively

Than Mez?

Yes then Mez, I know you have a love affair with Coburn and you must see something that most of us don't see but Coburn doesn't do anything better and Mez can atleast be a offensive threat. Yes Mez is not great defending but neither is Coburn.

Mez has skill, but he's an average skater at best and terrible defensively

He's thinking way too short term on this. Obviously the Boston 3rd rd pick was the best the Flyers could get. a late 3rd is better than nothing.

More offensive pop =/= better defensemen

What a (frank)ing toolbag

Kesler for Cooter, prospect and 1st does what for the Flyers? I'm sure Kesler will become that 40 goal scorer again and good two-way player wearing O&B. Keep the good times rolling...more Briere's, Vinny's, Bryz's and the list goes on and on.

My point is to get rid of crap and get AT LEAST something for it, ya know what good teams do? Why would you keep Meszaros? You find him that important to this team? Oh yeah every team needs depth, sit a bunch of low tiered players in case one of their low tiered players get injured.

Oh yeah Flyers won 2 games in a row, optimism is at delusional level right now.

- Glak18

First off, dude settle down. Why are you so pissy and offensive all the time? You've posted here a handful of times in the last few days and have just been caustic to others.

Secondly, I'm with you on the Kesler front. I'm an advocate of keeping all of our young core guys, and not blowing up the team. I think things are looking WAY UP for these guys provided they keep the bulk of the team together.

Thirdly, I don't think good teams deal away extra depth guys. In fact, I think they usually keep them for...well- depth. That being said, in the Flyers case, a dman needed to be dealt. I had said I'd rather keep Mez for some offensive pop from the back end, and thought he was playing very well over the last 6 weeks, but can 110% understand that there was an odd man out on D, and it was either Grossmann or Mez. Unfortunately, I'd rather have seen Grossmann go, but hey- I'm not Homer.

So Gillis is going to trade Kesler at the draft. Try to maximize his value.

Where have we seen this before?

You're entitled to your opinion, but....you're just absolutely wrong. About every single thing you said here (minus that Mez can be an offensive threat, but that's for both teams). Coburn is a better defender, is a better passer, and can log a ton more minutes.

a lot better than Mez.
- PhillySportsGuy

Really? What does Coburn bring to the table that Mez doesn't? What is he so much better at than Mez? I can't wait to hear this.

I don't believe Buffalo AND the Isles got stuck with Moulson and Vanek

One of them maybe, but not both

His sense smell, for one.

Something which was probably heightened after that eye injury as well.

Defense in general. Moving the puck. PK. Much better physically and much calmer presence.

To start anyway.

I'm with you, but the reason for that could simply be Mez had more suitors.

If it's basically a coinflip to trade one of the odd men out- Mez or Grossmann- would you take a 5th for Grossmann or a 3rd for Mez? Ya know what I mean?

I would rather have kept Mez, but I'm happy with the deal. It needed to be done.

Preventing the opposition from scoring points, also known as goals
Playing at a high level for higher amounts of time per game
Moving the puck from within the defensive zone
Killing penalties
Having a semblasnce of a physical game

off the top of my head

A better passer? Yea for the other team. Coburn has assisted on more goals AGAINST his team than he has for his own.

A better passer than Mez, yes. Mez either rushes the puck up the ice (which he does about as well as Coburn) and is a disaster with the puck otherwise.

You know what? This topic is actually so absurd I'mnot going any further.
