if the isles kept moulson, picked up a goalie and just improved their 5/6 defensemen they could still be in the hunt (with a healthy tavares)
really dumb I think
one of the reasons amac has such crap #s is they had such a weak bottom pair Carkner? jeebus - Marc D

Coburn
Streit/Amac (?)
Schenn/Gus/Grossmann and one of these three likely won't be here I guess.
If they are keeping Coburn they must find someone he can excel with.
I think at some point they need to target a guy and get it done, otherwise that D is a mess. They need to figure out something. - Marc D
I'd be ok going into next season with
Coburn-Grossmann
Streit - Mac
Schenn - Gus
Maybe kick the tires on Markov to see if he'd take a 1 or 2 year deal but this defence really isn't terrible. Not great, not bad. If you play a solid team game you can get away with 3 pairings that are essentially of 2nd pairing quality. I'm not a fan of trading away our young core for a top pairing dman at this moment conaidering what it would cost. Patience is the best course of action to allow our D prospects to grow and hopefully our problems on the backend will fix itself. |

I know. We need to take into account the physical and mental wear and tear of a guy playing those kind of minutes on that team.
I imagine its not fun coming to the rink under those circumstances. |

Garth Snow's inability to find a league average goalie and having Matt Carkner on his bottom defense pair should cost him is job
The stuff with Vanek? Yeah, it's awful. But you took a swing, missed. If I were an owner, I might not fire you for that.
But bringing back an ancient Evgeni Nabokov and playing Matt Carkner consistently?
Sorry, slick. But you gotta go

I believe yes, not certain though
Gus getting the popcorn again
I think what they will start with is
Kimmo/Coburn
Streit/Grossmann
Amac/Schenn
with Streit and Amac on the point for 2nd PP
just a guess |

ehrhoff and edler are trades
nisk only costs cap space
easiest thing would be to max out to the cap with UFA
wish the rangers let girardi walk, he would have been a solid pick up
someone said because of the weak canadian dollar the cap might only be 68M and not 71M as originally predicted - Marc D
I love Ehrhoff. He would be the perfect guy to take over for Kimmo. I would part with a 2014 first or (forgive me OB) Laughton. |

I'd use them strictly on the PK.
I think they are OK as a shut down pair, but a black hole on the offense side |

his dead is longggg. but dollar wise, with the cap rising, its actually pretty cheap AAV. |

The Flyers usually get their guy unless the player wants to play in a certain place. If they want Niskanen, they'll get him. |

I think Ehrhoff is UC until he's 37 or 38. Thats not bad. His AAV is under $4M I believe. |

oh yeah. you guys are getting him. and its going to cost a pretty penny.
just did a little glance, and its shocking how few players are under contract for the pens next year |

I know. Thats why I think the Pens will need to move salary if they acquire Kesler. And I'm not talking about just Sutter. |

I'd disagree and say it's right around average maybe slightly above when you really start looking around the league at other team's backends. Coburn and Grossman have shown they can be a fairly reliable shutdown pairing when together. Schenn/Gus seem to have a bit of chemistry together and if the coaches decide to let Gus stick around for more than a few games who knows that that pairing could blossom into.
Streit and Mac are more of a mystery to me but apparently they were paired together for3 years when they were on the isles. So if that's the case, I imagine they aren't half bad when paired together.
Edit : When I say average or slightly above, by no means am I saying they are all stars or would be the envy of the league. But not many teams can actually make that claim. |

They have:
9 forwards (including Rosehill)
4 defenseman (Excluding Pronger)
1 goalie
$12M in cap without using Pronger's LTIR.
B. Schenn and Gus are RFAs
Edit: they will also have Laughton on his entry level deal next year |

i dont know. a lot of decisions need to be made. ive never made one of those capgeek things so i dont have a working number in my head.
but orpik hopefully goes. id welcome nisk back if he took a smaller deal but i cant see why he would. hes probably gone.
the bottom 6 guys are all free agents. going to have to make a lot of moves. |

If you're going into the season with Grossmann slotted on the top pair you might as well just start selling McDavid jerseys at the games all season. |
