He should NEVER have been given 25 minutes a game.. the Isles did that out of desperation... in case you didnt notice, he was AWFUL this year ! just awful!
- MrBigglesworth

Bottom pair dmen aren't expected to get $4.5 plus on the open market.

Vanek is an ELITE scoring winger.

Yes he will be costly to sign but we have the cap space, and there wont be a better player available this offseason.

Lets put it this way, would you rather have Hartnell or Vanek on your top line ?

- MrBigglesworth

But do the Flyers currently have a team to win with him this year and this year alone, knowing that he isn't going to re-sign?

Hartnell means f*ck all to this conversation. He has a NTC and isn't likely to waive it.

The percentage of games played bit makes sense but the whole before or after draft condition is a little odd to me..

Edit: This is definitely not the post I meant to quote... God I need a new phone

He is just expressing his opinion.

He could have some validity to it.

And he won't be given 25 minutes a night here. He wasn't awful, he was a 2nd pair defenseman asked to take on too big of a role, and play against top competition every game. He won't have to do that here. He can be placed in the role that he's better suited for. There is no basis for stating that he is not a top 4 NHL defenseman in this League.

I'd like to see him get a chance. Although as a 7 it wont benefit him so much as playing regularly for the phantoms. All things considered he could be a good option.

The Flyers are going to need some low cap hit players on the roster. One of the biggest challenges at this point for the Flyers next Season, will be that there is currently a lack of players projected on the roster on EL deals to take advantage of the bonus cushion.

Anyway.. I think its obvious that Hartnell, Schenn (both) and Downie all need to go.
Vanek or Moulson would have been nice additions.

You need to give a hell of a reason why B. Schenn needs to go?

Yeah, the 22 year old kid who is tied for third on the team in goals needs to go

So based on your reasoning we should have traded Giroux instead of resigning him because he was asking for a raise?

He is a RFA, not a UFA. Players don't become UFA's at 22.

Okay, he gave one statistic. Give one legitimate reason why it's obvious that B Schenn has to go?

No doubt he will, and he'll get it. But it is still far different from being a UFA.

i thought schenn had a lot of incentives in his deal, making his current cap hit higher than his actual worth. if this is the case, he can get a fairly substantial (relatively speaking given his RFA status) raise, and the impact on the cap hit wont really reflect as much of an increase.

but seriously though, get rid of him.
