He is a RFA, not a UFA. Players don't become UFA's at 22.

Because the Flyers are going to want to carry Pronger on the opening roster coming out of training camp, to maximize LTIR. So looking at that roster, they are at $70,518,292 without Pronger. Add Pronger to that, and they are at 75,459,721. So they somehow need to lose 4,359,721 to be Cap compliant coming out of training camp with Pronger on the active roster and not on LTIR.

So hypothetically trading Grossmann and starting Laughton off in the AHL, removes $4,394,000 from the Flyers Cap, which makes them Cap compliant coming out of camp. Day of the opening game, Pronger is placed on LTIR, Laughton is recalled and in the lineup on opening night.

Only thing they have to do is finagle a 7th defenseman.

makes sense, thanks

i thought schenn had a lot of incentives in his deal, making his current cap hit higher than his actual worth. if this is the case, he can get a fairly substantial (relatively speaking given his RFA status) raise, and the impact on the cap hit wont really reflect as much of an increase.

but seriously though, get rid of him.

At least it makes sense coming from you.

I didnt know that.
if this is accurate then I'll gladly remove him from my hit list.

My original point was that we should have gone after a guy like Molson or Vanek and made consequent moves to get a winger like that signed.

Like I said, I'm asking for one legitimate reason why it's obvious that he should be moved.

No doubt he will, and he'll get it. But it is still far different from being a UFA.
- MJL

exactly. even if you knew schenn was at his virtual ceiling already, good luck finding 20 goals on the FA market for 2.5 mil

This team doesn't need Vanek. It needs defense.

There are a few exceptions. Thanks for pointing that out. But it's not normal.

depending on what he resigns for, moulson may be a steal. i dont know if vanek has his mind made up where he wants to go already, so i wont speculate on that. but i do think its going to take a MEGA deal to get him. it will be a bad deal for the team in my opinion.

however, for a pure rental perspective, both of those guys went dirt (frank)ing cheap.

He is on an EL deal with performance bonuses. Using the bonus cushion, a team only has to account for his base salary, which is 870,000 for B. Schenn.

And end up spending $3-$7mm more per year on a 30 year old winger instead of keeping a very skilled, developing young player.

youll be disappointed if people expect him to be the answer in its entirety, but he is a decent start at minimal risk.

i still firmly believe you guys are going to have right around 10 mil per year invested in amac and niskanen in the not too distant future. how you guys feel about that is all a matter of perspective i guess.

If we packaged B.Schenn for a legit #1 Defenceman that we so desperately need, you are saying you wouldnt do that? He's untouchable for you ? My point was that he is due for a raise. but if infact there is some magic rule that says his salary is masked by bonuses and his cap hit remains small, then I will gladly retract my statement and I am wrong.
