i still firmly believe you guys are going to have right around 10 mil per year invested in amac and niskanen in the not too distant future. how you guys feel about that is all a matter of perspective i guess. - stayinthefnnet
Nobody here wants Niskanen.
Trading Meszaros was a mistake. |

If we packaged B.Schenn for a legit #1 Defenceman that we so desperately need, you are saying you wouldnt do that? He's untouchable for you ? My point was that he is due for a raise. but if infact there is some magic rule that says his salary is masked by bonuses and his cap hit remains small, then I will gladly retract my statement and I am wrong. - MrBigglesworth
Nope. I'd certainly be willing to move him for a legit number one defenseman. You didn't say that, you said that the Flyers need to get rid of him to sign a one dimensional winger like Vanek or Moulson.
Had you said, I'd move Brayden Schenn for a legit number one defenseman, i'd have agreed wholeheartedly. |

I have an off topic question, I'll ask it again tomorrow maybe when there's more people on the thread. I'd appreciate any insight:
My son is tearing through his Bauer skates. Last pair lasted 9 months. He's on the ice 5-7 days a week. He's done growing. Is there a skate that will hold up to a beating and last more than a year? |

I think everyone would be willing to include B Schenn in a trade for a legit #1 defenseman. There is no magic rule for B Schenn. He is going to cost around 2.5 to 3M next year.

forwards (baring any trades and RFA rafl and Brayden re upped)
G, Hartnell, Jake, VL, Simmonds, BSchenn, Read, Couts, Raffl, Rinaldo, Rosehill, Laughton?
12 forwards
will need a 13th could resign Hall/Downie or another
D - 4 signed
Streit, Coburn, Luke Schenn, Grossmann
with Amac thats five
if they reup Gusty that's 6
they will need one more at least
goalies
Mason
Backup
D is the big question
without Amac they need 2-3 more
Is Gusty still in the plans?
with the guys signed for next year they have a cap payroll of 58.4M, 59.3 with Laughton
take out the Pronger LTIR ~ 54.4
Cap goes to say 70M
leaves them 15.6
to sign B Schenn, Raffl, Amac, Gus
B schenn ~2.5M
Raffl ~ 1.5M
Amac ~ 4.25
Gus ~ 1.25
that is about 9.5M for the unsigned RFA/UFAs
that leaves about 6M and change for another D and the 13th forward and back up goalie - Marc D
It's a lot easier to use the Armchair GM. You can't just take out Pronger's cap hit. It needs to be on the roster submitted at the end of training camp. Maybe Kimmo might wait around without a contract until Pronger goes on LTIR at the end of September/start of October and then sign for ~$4m, but no other good free agent will.

again, not to speak for someone, but i dont see how not wanting him to be jettisoned due to a minimal raise necessarily equates with him now being an untouchable piece that someone wouldnt part with to address the true area of need. |

Messzaros was a player who was obviously affected by his injuries. He lost the physical edge he had previously, and declined drastically defensively.
I'd be happy with Niskanen at the right price. Although he is not the exact type of player I want them to get. But I don't know if that player is going to available.

Never said straight up get rid of Schenn to get Vanek or Molson. I thought Schenn was due for a big raise since he is upcoming FA, but I was corrected about that, so I then said in that case I'd take him off my hit list. And yes I would rather have Vanek and Moulson over B.Schenn.

You can't put Pronger on LTIR until the season starts. Unless you expect MacDonald to wait until then to sign a contract, that roster is not possible. |

He is due a significant raise in terms of cap charge. Nobody knows the exact bonus structure in his contract to know for sure what he's going to make. The Flyers are using the bonus cushion. And his base salary for this year is 870K

And trading a 22 year old, developing player for 30 year olds is a step in the wrong direction, to say nothing of the raises that Moulson & Vanek will likely get as UFAs. |

He's solid, I can ask a scout to get his exact percentage from the team since the league doesn't put those figures out. |

That's what I meant by start of season. Like this season I expect him to be put on LTIR as soon as possible after the cap compliant roster is submitted.

He refused that. Im sure he wants a longer deal.
He still has a solid 8 years of high level hockey in him, I'd have no problem giving him an 8 year deal.

Again, I wasnt aware that he has that clause that limits his cap hit.
I thought he is due for a big raise hence why I said that. End of story
I also would have kept Meszaros over Luke Schenn. |
