A trade with St Louis and no Dmitrij Jaskin in return

A trade with Minnesota and no Charlie Coyle in return

Hmmm...I seem to see a trend. We don't acquire the team's best prospect.

- Jawallstar1

That's the big issue
We're getting "good" return...

But what we need to do is turn all these "good" assets into "GREAT" ones

Still very curious to see what we got for Moulson!

Misread a text, sorry. Both picks, MTL's 2nd and the #Isles 2015 5th, are conditional. If Habs miss playoffs, no picks change hands.

If Garth Snow somehow keeps his job after this, the Islanders need to change their status as a non-for-profit charitable organization because they clearly aren't out to be competitive.

Neither of those are the best prospects for their respective teams.
- Sabresfan-365

In my opinion they are...At least concerning forwards.

There wasn't a single 1st round pick that changed hands today and Gaborik, Moulson and Vanek were all dealt.
Tells you just about what you need to know about this years market.

Makes getting TWO 1sts (hopefully) in the Miller-Ott deal pretty impressive

So lets break this down:

Ott-Chris Stewart
Miller-Neuvirth a 2015 first a potential 2014 1st and a 6th rounder
McNabb and 2nds- Hudson Fasching and Nic Deslauriers

Vanek-a 2014 or 2015 first, a 2014 second and whatever we got for Moulson

Thats a pretty good return if you ask me

- Stripes77

I would have to agree. It's a tough situation for any GM when you are in a re-build and have to move so many pending UFA's. The returns might be difficult but in this case I think Murray did fairly well. He got picks and prospects, Conacher off waivers and an able goalie in Neuvirth. I give him a B+

You think Jaskin is better than Schwartz? And Coyle is better than Granlund?

The idiocy on this site is at an all-time high. Prices were low today with the exception of the baffling return for St. Louis. Look at what Vanek went for. Murray should be commended for moving Miller and Ott last week.

Hearing that the pending trade calls are Tallinder for Bob Corkum
and
2 thirds, 2 sixths, and half a seventh for Rico Fata.

I don't consider them to be "prospects" in the true sense. They are both full-time roster players.

Here is my guess. Islanders draft this year we draft Reinhart (or Ekblad if one of Ehrhoff or Myers is moved at the draft) add a few vets in FA (Olli for 89's sake) still a bottom 5 team. Hopefully win the lottery draft McDavid and in 4 years we have a team that has McDavid Reinhart Compher and Fasching suiting up for us. It could turn into an A
