Im hoping that this is the end of the Gillis era. The rumor that FA wont let Gillis make the trade could mean many things if it were true. Maybe he doesnt like the package Gillis presented him. Maybe He doesnt think it should center around Sutter or something? Maybe he just flat out is done with Gillis and is waiting for a competent replacement to deal with this. Maybe knowing the payoffs are a pipe dream, he's made decisions based on that reality that dont involve Gillis.

Im happy Gillis hasnt made a deal involving Kesler. Still, its another trade deadline where Gillis was only successful at bringing in bottom six help.

Regardless of how it went down. The owner should have enough faith in the GM to let them do their job. I don't know if this is just FA's style or if Gillis is not trusted. If Gillis is not trusted. Goodbye.

From what I have just been reading it sounds like the Aquaman stopped Gillis from pulling the trigger.

Like I said, if true, Gillis should step down today.

Gotta love how it's finally buyer's market for once now that we're selling.

I think the new scroatee is to hide his (frank)ing ventriloquist dummy jaw. Aquilini (an unathletic know-nothing control freak with $) is in charge here.

Sounds like Gillis is driving the car and he is getting directions from FA, and they are lost and FA is upset that Gillis listened to his directions.

Told it was a feeding frenzy for Kesler. A few great offers made. At one point last week as many as 6 teams were legit in play.

Quantity doesn't equal quality. Doesn't sound like any of them approached the asking price. Consistent message has always been that the offers will be better at the draft.

From a negotiation perspective, you should be able to talk a team into mortgaging their future ahead of a playoff run MUCH EASIER than @ the draft where the focus is waaaaaay different.

The price for Vanek was just a tad higher than what we paid for Roy. And comparable to Paul Gaustad in the past. Holy (frank). Where were these prices when we were contenders?

And we don't even know how many of those 6 teams Kesler would have agreed to move to.

That pick Snow gave up for Vanek will likely be far more valuable than Colberg

Doug Murray and Ryan Clowe were close to the same cost for Vanek/Moulson....god damn.

Collberg doesn't even seem to be developing that well so far.

George Steinbrenner played a huge part in all his teams deals. Yes I realize that GS had a ton more experience than FA but if I have players that I want on my team I get them. If FA has a thing for Kesler he won't be moved. I don't think that is a slap in the face. I am sure everyone has done a lot of things that their boss made other decisions on. Normal stuff. If he is gone fine but I doubt it.

No matter what the story is there is no reason for Gillis to play the role of GM. If FA dont trust him....fire him. And if Gillis is not in control, he should decide move on.

And if Kesler wasn't locked up for anther 2 years that would be the case. As he is then the draft offers a better opportunity because you get more teams involved and they have more cap flexibility to deal with. At the draft a team acquiring him can build around that move for the upcoming season (and beyond) while at the TDL they have to cram him into their already pre-existing plan (and cap structure).

At least Canuck fan anger is now aiming where it should have been the whole time: Harold Ballard. .. I mean, Aquilini. He's responsible for the clown front office and clown coaching. I wonder how much the net worth of the Canucks has tumbled over the last few months. It will be interesting to see the new Forbes numbers next year.

Yeah, but that hasn't stopped some MTL fans from making outlandish claims about his talent/value.

Most were claiming he's a better prospect than Horvat and Shinkaruk earlier in the year...
