Not sure what to credit either of them for. The best Canuck seasons came from the Burke-Nonis and, I believe, the McCaw shtshow core. Other than some tinkering -- yes, Erhoff was a good pickup -- this gang had ridden the coattails of past regimes.

Early 90's were the best years for me, that was a team of skill, talent, toughness and heart.

Snow trades Moulson + 1st (top 5) and 2nd for Vanek then trades Vanek for Collberg and conditional 2nd and we are harping on Gillis. Not trying to defend Gillis but we could be in a lot worse shape if we had Snow as GM. Just saying.
- Linden_4_Capt

Short memory eh?

Grabner(developed 1st rounder), Hodgson(developed 1st rounder), Schneider(developed 1st rounder legit starter), Luongo( Elite and returning from team Can), 1st round pick, several 2nd round picks

turns into

Kassian(question mark), Horvat(question mark), Markstrom(question mark), Matthias(3rd liner) and having to buy out Ballard

So teams will get one less playoff run with Kesler, but will trade more for him in the Summer? I don't follow.

More teams who have the flexibility and cap space to make it happen. By waiting they allow more teams to bid more.
- KB3Point0

What good does that do if they are not on Kesler's list? The list god dammit!!!!

Maybe some teams on the list can't make the offer now because of cap reasons or other consideration... who knows? Everything with a grain of salt.

I've been watching them since 1976, so the Pat Quinn era was like emerging form a dark place. However, the Canucks were never really contenders in the early 1990s. They had the '94 run, but that was a shock. The recent Canucks were contenders and should have won. And as I said, I don't believe that the current management had anything to do with it.

You think it's Gillis's fault and I think it's FA's fault.
- A_SteamingLombardi

Funny how good you are at ignoring what I've said to form my opinions for me.

Didnt I just say this?

It is true that all decisions land on him ultimately. Its his GM hiring that he can let go at any time. If he feels he has to make the moves over MG's head, its FA's own doing. own it and move on. Find a competent GM.

I guess... I just don't see the interest in Kes ever being as high as it was today. And if he were to get an inkury requiring surgery during the rest of the season...

Maybe FA's definition of a competent GM is someone who does what he says and wants.

AV

This team needs a total revamp. They've become the laughing stock of the league. It was fine when they were the laughing stock and then won games, but now they are a disaster. From management down.

Here's a question, if we won the Cup in '11, would be so upset with the direction of the team today? Are we so upset because we were so close but never could seal the deal, or would we have more patience if we had a Cup from this group?

Im not so sure there was a very good deal offered today. If the best young center that was offered was Sutter.... its a meaningless move. Its also very possible Kesler's value wont be better with the same teams knowing this summer that Kesler's list is still the same teams. Thats just the kind of gun to the head poop this team is always dealing with.

Its very suspicious that the rumors of Kesler wanting out of Van came storming out of the Olympics.... followed by Kesler denying...folowed by Gillis talking trades and admitting they didnt make the Kesler trade because the offers were not right... Did Kesler try and accelerate the process? Did Gillis? Was Kesler just being too loose with his mouth while away with his other team? This poop doesnt help...

They need to get rid of the players within the organization that hate the ORGANIZATION.

Sounds like a greater fall... The core has been putting up less and less points except that Kes is healthy now and wants out - he wants to win and doesn`t believe the chances are very good here.

If they had won the Cup I wouldn't give a sh!t what they did for a long time after. They could have won the Cup then finished dead last 5 years in a row and I would have been fine with it. But they didn't win a Cup. And now it looks like they need to start all over again.
