I get the feeling that this is going to turn into a "rip Gillis a new one" kinda thread, but I actually salute him.

It's rare that a GM sees a window closing and decides to rebuild. They usually just go into self-preservation mode, making a series of trades that sacrifice the future for the present.

I'm sure that a lot of Canucks fans are going to think that I'm just trolling here, but I sincerely feel this way.

Gillis is making the tough decisions.

I don't call a legit statement trolling.

I find it so hard to believe Vancouver is waving the flag on the playoffs. Would Brodeur be on the radar as a relatively cheaper acquisition to try get there? Or is the D Sedin injury too much of a blow to playoff chances?

Well they're surely to miss Daniel's 0 goal total in 2014.

Goaltending has not been an issue. Defense has not been an issue.

They can't shoot, thus score. They have terrible puck possession. Too much to ask of the back end.

Well said & could not be more accurate. So many of us wish we had made the hard bold decision to hit the reset button where the return on Iggy & Kipper alone could have made it such a swift rebound. You cling on hoping you can add the right pieces but you have nothing in the cupboards to do so. It becomes a horrible rut.

For what it's worth, the fact that they traded for a rental in MacDonald tells me they are serious about making a push.

I still think it's more than likely nothing happens with Kesler, but with other teams in the east beefing up, I think Philly is still as in this race as PIT.

Yeah, I am fine either way. Honestly would be surprised if they can get a trade done. Gillis wants a lot and not many partners... Maybe the draft will be more exciting.

If this is true, the real issue is ownership more than anything else. If you want to wait to trade Kesler to maximize his return, then great. But if they think they're making the playoffs - their out of their mind.
