From thefourthperiod.com ( http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/van140306.html ):
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review had reported that the Penguins had pitched an offer of center Brandon Sutter, a first-round draft pick, a third-round draft pick and the Canucks' choice of defensemen Simon Despres or Brian Dumoulin.
The Ducks, according to TFP Editor-in-Chief David Pagnotta, had presented a package that included defenseman Sami Vatanen, a first-round draft pick and another player. - ikeane
Exactly correct that the Vancouver "brain trust" did want to come out with a possible, and players that really weren't able to dent their present etam rosters, like Despres.
Sutter is what he is a 3C.
(Pittsburgh sent lesser prospects and Joe Morrow (who they felt backslide 7 wasn't going to be waht they thought he would for Playoff fills of ignila/morrow last year, and I guess the sportswriter reporting used that formula for him trade scenario)
The kid that Pittsburg didn't offer Pouliot was a guy the Pens thought would be with the parent club until Olli Maatta beat him out of the job.
But the point is well taken: Vancouver must have know that with Lou leaving, that the rebuild was going to be starting...but that doesn't mean you chuck Kelser because of one componenet of a trade with a draft pick....
It just makes more sense to make sure you get a guy worth NHL upside already, and players with big promise along with a pick.
The "hawk offer scenario" JJ has choreographed does just that, but it also guts the 2nd & 3rd pairings, and offers up the Hawks best Euro skilled hopeful in Tuerovainen.
Don't think the straight ahead patient Bowman and organization would be even considering this prior to the playoff after winning with these horses.
Let's for a second say Gilles & Bowman talked and Gilles said we are in no rush, let's talk after the season, with Kesler obstinate about desiring a self selected new team.
Now if we are talking a revisit of the talks after the Hawks are sure they need an overhaul and spruce up after the Playoffs then I see there being a discussion.
As I said in that Tallon / Mike OConnelll / Joe Thornton deal you make sure you aren't pushed out of the conversations when a big time impact player is there, no matter if he is dinged, long of tooth, but he better fit, and the team still has to have the other components to win now, because it would be a win now trade....

Read this Unofficial offer the Pens made for Kesler:
According to Pittsburgh Tribune-Review beat writer Rob Rossi, two-way center Brandon Sutter, a first- and third-round draft pick and the Canucks' choice of any defensive prospect in the system other than Derrick Pouliot was the unofficial offer.

No wonder JJ says that the Hawks offer was the best the Canucks received - ikeane
Considering some of the rumored offers for Kesler it appears the Blackhawks offer was way over the top. Time will tell what exactly will happen. |

If TT could help this team in one area it should be powerplay with his amazing vision and puck skills. - MjulQvist
A greybeard like me has seen plenty a player who tore up the Euro leagues or junior scoring goals and just didn't have the game to be a NHL pro.
Granted I know I see strong playmaking ability in TT when I see him in the leagues / tourneys he has played in.
...and everytime I thank goodness that my team has an entire lineup of skilled attcakers handlers, possession players, I wonder what / if TT becomes better with the player abilities he would be surrounded by.
Believe me, I could see making the trade, and I could see holding back and not.

Pittsburgh can not play defense to save their lives. And Shero added forwards yesterday? Especially with all the injuries they have had on their back end? Stan looks better and better every season. - Elbows15
They are playing a lot of big plumbers and I think Goc and Stempniak are just fills if they feel they need replacements for the hitters giving them a way to change styles/tactics to suit the opponents. |

My question remains is how do you fit TT in Chicago with 50k cap space and an incoming 925k cap hit? only player I see being a potential is Brookbank to Rockford to even try to make it happen, and even then someone would snag him off of waivers.
remember, we like our team and dont want to lose any players off the roster |

It won't be Brookbank. Regin and Rundblad. You lose them. you lose em. Or Handzus goes on IR. |

Don't see Rundblad being exposed to waivers after giving up a 2nd, especially with as high as Bowman praised Rundblad. Is Zues hurt and able to go on IR? |
