A little clarification, now that I have a moment to catch my breath:
The source on this was/is a very good one. I will just leave it at that. Someone else I know with a contact close to (some might say within) the Hawks got to me yesterday and said they had heard the exact same thing.
My source warned me: "you will take a lot of sh-- if you go out with this."
And I did. I don't care. Most of it has been from Hawk fans who think, due to having seen some videotape of Teravainen, they discovered him personally and he is the greatest player since Wayne Gretzky. Neither of which are remotely true.
And in at least one case, I do believe the Hawks pr people have some "operatives" out in the "Twitter-verse" whose job it is to derail stories they don't want getting out.
There is a very real possibility that Teravainen in 5 years might not be the player Ryan Kesler is today. Very real. And if you're Patrick Kane, and you've been waiting the last 2 years for a legit center, you're not waiting to see if Teravainen is that guy—or if he ends up as many speculate, another sort of Patrick Kane at RW. In other words, Teravainen coming over and thriving at RW—TAKES AWAY leverage Kane has on his contract next summer.
His pushing for Kesler—which has been NO SECRET for the last 10 days or so, is him USING the leverage he has right now.
Teravainen could end up being a great player. But Ryan Kesler plugged in at 2C for the Hawks is pretty much a guaranteed upgrade right now. And makes them a marginally better team right now. Too bad they couldn't get him for this year's playoffs. He might have been the difference between a 2nd or 3rd round team and a Cup winner. Yes, he's a very good player who fills a couple of huge holes in t this lineup.
All this is just common sense. Anyone debating this as though Teravainen is guaranteed to be Pavel Datsyuk is just ignorant.
The thing that is debatable is can you afford to ship Leddy off and assume David Rundblad, and/or Steve Johns or Klas Dahlbeck fills his shoes in some way. That is debatable. but there are also two sides to that debate. Rundblad is a highly thought of, willed puck rushing defenseman with a lot of good years ahead of him—especially in the Hawks' system.
Bottom line, and if any of you haters are reading this, you are ridiculous. This is not "made up." I am creative, but it would take a genius to make up a scenario like this where so many dots clearly connect. And to get a made up story out to more than one independent source. - John Jaeckel
Very sensible summary, JJ. But I just wish all of us would stop with the straw men. No one's ever used the word "guaranteed" or Gretzky when referring to TT. The last time the org touted a player as highly it was Saad, and to their credit he's turning out better than what 90% of folks here expected.
I'd like very much to see with TT's ceiling is with the Hawks, and I have much reason for optimism. Of course, I like Stanley Cups better...

TT is better skater than Mikael Granlund is. Not that much faster but TT uses his blades really good. Granlund is really talented and even more hyped yound player than TT has been but many of us in Finland believe that TT is more gifted player than Granlund. - MjulQvist
Grandlund got a ton of hype after that lacrosse goal I remember. It took him really one NA season where he was lost, but he's very good now. Was great in the Olympics. It seems TT can make more happen with the puck as opposed to just a pure passer like Granlund right? |

Can somebody tell me how close Dahlbeck is to fill in a roster spot on the Hawks next year? - spanky
Honestly, I think he could be with the Hawks now as a 6th or 7th defenseman...
He's responsible in his own end for the most part and seems to position himself well. He'll also lay down and block shots. He's showing an offensive component to his game this season, but he doesn't look like a PP quaterback to me. Dahlbeck is also one of the alternate captains in Rockford, so it's obvious that he has some leadership qualities.
In all, I would think that the organization will keep him in Rockford for next season, since he'll be on the last season of his ELC. Dahlbeck would probably be the first called up to fill a roster spot due to injury of a defenseman. |

Sounds like Oduya. Also sounds like he'd get a new deal after Oduya leaves next year. |

If they trade TT and get Kesler - great, Kesler for at least two more years will solidify Chicago's top two lines and keep the Hawks in the hunt.
If the deal doesn't get made and we're looking at TT after next year - ok, something to maybe look forward to - maybe he makes it at 2C, maybe not at all.
The 500 lb. gorilla is: what actually did Kane say or intimate throughout all of this - is there an implication of get a quality experienced 2C or he's walking? Was it more like, we did well together at Soshi and Vancouver, so maybe you should try to get him?
There's a big difference between pushing to get someone, and leaning on your main leverage to do it.

I don't think the issue is if he walks or not. I think the issue is term and dollars and options when he gets closer to 30 to be the guy somewhere and have more of a shot at a MVP or scoring title.
That stuff matters after a certain point. Not a back breaker but can sure cause tension. |

If that proposed trade happened we would have needed someone to step up and fill the void. We wouldn't have lost just Leddy but Oduya too (to make the necessary cap room).
I'd really like to land Kesler in the off season, but I hope Stan can do it without gutting the team depth, especially on defense. - DarthKane
Your point is the nuts...
I could make a case the Hawks are better off today with Kesler than Leddy and TT. I can't make a case the Hawks are better off with Kesler but not having Oduya and Leddy.
They would get exposed big time in this years playoff and that's why Bowman could not make any deal that demanded two defenseman off this year's roster.
Granted Leddy didn't play much in the Final but the Hawks aren't getting to the Final this time using only 5 dman, even if one is Oduya.
There are quite a few other reasons why, considering the Hawks are coming off a Cup win, the trade clauses etc.
But no GM would take out 1/3 of his defense at this time of year if they were a Cup contender.
To remotely believe anyone in Rockford is as good as Leddy is flat out wrong and that includes Rundblad today.
Now if the Hawks bow out early...In the 1st two rounds, things will get interesting this summer.
Blue Jackets fall on a class hike 6-1.

What team would he have a better shot at a MVP or scoring title on? People seem to be ignoring the fact that Kane has played a ton with Toews over the years, yet still had his best scoring season playing with Bolland and Handzus. |

The Hawks have to watch out losing players they develop...Stanton loss was no great shakes for most but giving him away wasn't good.
So there needs to be a game plan because there could be a few coming in 2 years.
Dahlbeck is probably the best prospect in the AHL today but who knows in 8 months.

He could turn out to be better but if he was today he would have been in the lineup somewhere in the NHL.
Leddy here is under rated by most....Bowman would have a long line of suitors to pick from when/if he deals him.

Actually I'm a big smart ass myself so I appreciate any effort to dish it to me.....I was just pointing out the hoody he needed to read more regarding the conversation - UnnamedSource
Oh trust me, I've followed the conversation. I've followed the conversation for a good five months.
This particular conversation started when someone challenged Rollpards about TT and Rollpards used TT's domination at the World juniors as an indicator for future success, and went on to say that "Pirri's talent level isn't that high, Terrevainen's is…." this eventually led to your wonderful soliloquy about AHL scorers…. Did you mention Pirri by name? No you didn't…. But you didn't use any other AHL leading scorer as an example now did you?
As for being a smart ass, well, that's what kind of makes this board this board. I aint got nothing but love for people on this board, whether I agree with them or not. Well except for Jaeckell…..that guy has issues. (how DO you use the red font…..?) |
