I'm starting to wonder how much of what I hate about Gillis has been Aquilini all along... When it comes to this dysfunctional mishmash of a coaching staff I believe Torts & Sullivan were Aquilini's idea (and Torts was basically neutered upon his hiring - I recall them talking about him being a different guy if he gets this job)... I think Gulutzan (who I believe would be fine as the HC with his own assistants) was a Gillis' candidate.
Bottom line... Meddling owners will be a problem no matter which names we list. - DrChristianTroy
Bingo. I have definitely seen a disconnect in the body language. Torts and Sully always stay close together and Gully is off on his own. My understanding of Gully from those that have worked with him is that is is a tireless worker and a solid coach. |

If we can get Ekblad and McDavid in the next two drafts we'd be in a good spot moving forward. |

Agreed, my job priorities always escalate in the summer, and being an East coaster staying up till one in the morning and subsequently walking into work still plastered has taken its toll
For once it would be nice to actually look forward to the draft...( not sure if sarcasm....not yet anyways ) |

(frank) that, i don't wanna lose for that long, hoping for a quick turnaround.
It's one thing to give up on this season, but the next as well....that's asking too much in my opinion.

Do you really think the pieces left over from a Kesler & Edler retool are good enough to be anything other than medicore for a looong time? I think an aggressive rebuild gets us back to the top faster than a half-assed retool. Just my opinion...
Half-Assed Retool = middle of the pack forever
Aggressive rebuild = young stacked powerhouse w/ waves of depth in 4-5yrs (cap sustainable) |

I think so yup. The window has closed. I was truly surprised it was this fast but yes they need to be aggressive for this turnover. I think we now have a taste of who is really running the ship though. Too bad it could present serious problems with this team returning to elite form. |

mmmmhhhmmm, and Edmonton said the same thing, about a decade ago.
With the assets we have in regards to the defense ( and Sedins), we can't afford to simply burn out, not to mention the NTC's. In my view the only option moving forward is an injection of youth with the current back-end insuring a quick turn around. Perhaps we don't make the playoffs, but with prospects and the players we have we are neither a contender nor a bottom feeder, which will frighten the majority of fickle fans but we can't afford to implement our prospects into a losing culture. We enter next season with the youth we currently have, plus added assets from various trade scenarios and build our way up from there. Conversely, the option you suggest would be dependent upon waiting out our current core as well as management/ownership to build from the bottom up, which we both know will take a hell of alot longer then "4-5 years"....

I really think ownership, management and the players should listen to this.

While I enjoy watching the Canucks in the playoffs; I enjoy watching other NHL playoff hockey just as much. It's just as good, but waaaayyy less stressful.

Disagree about it taking longer than 4-5yrs if the right GM has the freedom to act decisively & a scouting dep't in place to draft better than this franchise ever has... I'd love to take over & make this team the Seahawks of the NHL. |

Elliotte is saying that Kassian has a disciplinary hearing tomorrow.
It was a bad hit, but I didn't think it was that bad. Maybe more coincidental than anything with Dhillion kinda stopping unexpectedly to go back to the bench.
Anyways, Kassian's gonna get at least 5 games... |

I hear ya, and agree with you.
I suppose i'm merely more cynical and pessimistic in regards to the current management/ownership regime then you are. I don't believe they will go down without a long and bitter struggle, thus i guess my re-tool example is a means of least resistance and subsequently a quicker revival then hoping for change from the top down.
Again, i truly and honestly hope you are correct |

I for one am looking forward to winning the draft lottery next year and hope we really tank it next year. The best thing this team can do is suck it big time the rest of this year so everyone wants out and nobody wants in.
McDavid is a once in a generation player and will turn this franchise around.
Bye bye Kes, Bieksa, Edler and co. It was a good ride but it's time for us to be really bad next year. |

Doubt it.
Last night was pathetic, once again. That team has no life left in it and appear as though they have completely shut the coaching staff out. Anyone remember awhile back when Torts called a time out and Henrik and the players stayed at centre ice to strategize instead of skating over to the bench. I didn't really think that things would get as bleak as the Keenan era but here we are. |

I hope not...them beating us would give us an outside shot at 5th. If we beat them probably 7th is the best we could do.

Go (frank) yourself!
Everybody east of the Rockies spells Kesler with and extra "S" and blames it on auto-correct. I accidentally spell Dillion with an "H" in it; and all of a sudden I'm worse than Hitler? You do see my location, right? White Rock; just south of Surrey...
