Though I can't make it through every comment when we're up over 500 a day, I do read when I can. There's a lot of good news and discussion mixed in with the pool talk
- Carol Schram

Don't worry, I promise you there will be less pool talk from here on out

I heard it from McLean and a few other commentators before the tdl and they said owners wanted expiring contracts and not long term commitments...

Sounds like they didn't really want expiring contracts because there is nothing to fill the cap space to replace...

Canucks should have a bit of space without Lu and Booth

- hillbillydeluxe

Yeah and and there could be a scenario where they make a trade for a good player(ie Kadri) and also take on a total waste of cap space (ie Clarkson) to help facilitate the deal.

At the end of this day, we're flat out (frank)ed as fans of a franchise where the owner is running the show and calling the shots. He isn't in the GM's office everyday, he probably doesn't know nearly as much as Gillis about other's team's GM's, how they view player son their own roster and ours. And probably doesn't do nearly as much player analysing/scouting as the management team. I get that it is his team and he wants to have a say in it's direction, but to actually interfere in all roster moves, coaching hires, trades, etc is way too much and it's gonna sent this franchise back big time the longer he's he or doesn't change his ways.

Not bad for a 2LC, he'd be our leading points scorer....

As Iggy posted in the last thread. Bob Murray of the Ducks sounds pretty pissed, apparently Gillis and him had a potential deal worked out during crunch time which once again Mr.Wonderful nixed. There goes one more team that will likely not be doing business with the Canucks again for awhile and potentially one less team for Kesler. At this point all I can do is...

Why are they trying to get rid of him then?

They aren't I was just using him as an example of what Gillis might be able to do with cap space considering the UFA class is so weak.

It doesn't seem like "no meddling" is part of Aquilini's vocabulary either.

Well that sucks for them. I'd take him as my 2nd line center.

Same with "not (frank)ing over my own team with my not so great management and hockey knowledge"

I can't think of a single success story where a owner has had a hands on approach to hockey operation.

But...but....... gillis hired a sleep doctor, and the dressing room is badass...............

Ironic that he has a Sleep Doctor on staff, yet managed to cure insomnia with the on-ice product.

Looking at this team's recent history signing UFAs, unless they're local boys, is something they seem either very gun-shy about or have great difficulty doing.

It's nice of the old vampire to play fantasy hockey GM and slot guys in on paper with the only consideration being their current cap hit, but it's a widely known secret that Vanek would like to relocate to MIN in the offseason and Moulson will undoubtedly get an offer that far exceeds his talent.

This TDL, despite all the activity, has proven if nothing else that it can be very difficult to get equal value in return for a player you're selling. It's even tougher competing with a good portion of the league for players that everyone wants.

Bottom line IMO: we're not "just" a few offseason moves away from contender status. As Marwood likes to say, it's a process, and this one looks like it could be years in the making.

I mean I could understand it if the Canucks were a low budget team, but this sh!t is (frank)ing ridiculous.

Does Gillis have no access to the sleep doctor? He always looks horrible.

Stop ignoring it Lefty, you can no longer deflect this mess by taking shots at the Leafs! At this point only #TankNation can save us(assuming Aquilini doesn't start making draft picks too now!).
