Once NJ paid the recapture penalty the precedent was set, I don't think any team will get out of the recapture penalties.

There are 36 of these contracts, 37 if you count Kovalchuk.

But NJ fought against the draft pick punishment and a middle ground was established. They didn't fight the recapture penalty did they?

As of today, recapture hasn't been challenged or beaten by any team & the fact that the Devils willingly paid it this season sets the only truly relative precedent regarding recapture thus far.

So what's the worst case scenario for this season?

IMO:

1) The Canucks gather just enough points to make the playoffs
2) Get swept
3) MG states after game 4: "It was a strange year with all the injuries but I believe the fight we showed down the stretch and what we saw with a healthy squad in December is far more indicative of the team we really have. I like the core we've got."

You're right, legal precedent wasn't set. My point was NJ put a crack in the wall. I'm not saying the Canucks will get out of recapture but based on today's decision it opens the door to that possibility.
