The moment Vanek turned down that contract extension signaled he had no intention on staying and Snow should have moved then. It was nobody's fault but his own that he waited till the last minute. - joshFreeman
If they hadn't been so cheap and kept some salary (which would have been three months) they could have got a much better return. |

If markstrom regains his confidence you might have stole this trade - Yeti1181
As diabolical as the situation might appear with the organization, one thing we do have going for us is that our goalie coach Rollie Melanson has done an excellent job bringing up our goalies over the past few years. Even Ericsson, who had a short spell as back-up earlier this season, apparently returned to the minors a much improved goalie. And this after getting shelled in his only NHL appearance.
Markstrom seems to have been mismanaged by Florida (big surprise) but if the damage isn't permanent I agree he could be a steal. |

True. Even with them waiting till the last minute I was still surprised by the return they got or lack there of. |

It's not that I disagree with you. The Oilers are a special case of disaster. But even Colorado had to go through years of bottom feeding mediocrity before aquiring those players.
MacKinnon (1st overall)
Landeskog (2nd overall)
Duchene (3rd overall)
O'Reilly (33rd overall)
That is the core of that team and required 3 lottery picks to build it. As bad as it looks now we won't be getting those kinds of draft positions for a while yet. - AlexF
for Colorado it was more a case of a veteran team that had run its course and had a lot of success, so minimal draft picks in the early 1sts.
Oilers, not so much. their success was over 30 years ago. |

I just seen the highlights from last game Christ they didn't seem to even be trying on those goals. Was the whole game like that? - Yeti1181

You referring to the guy that was the future of your franchise and the reason you didn't need an old declining goalie like Luongo?
I definitely enjoyed reading 100 of those posts last summer. - AlexF
He was the future of our franchise about two years ago. Then he blew his knee out. Go watch film.. how many times has the first shot gone in. He faced 5 in the third period and let one in last night.. he plays WAY too deep in net. He doesn't use his size. I have had these problems with him for the last two years. It will not change. I would take Luongo over Markstrom any day of the week and I'd bet you would too if you were objective. I also bet you'd take Schneider back in a heart beat. |

Absolutely false. He had plenty of chances and got most of his training in Sweden. He just isn't what we thought he was. |

Can't speak about 2 years ago but the Luongo trade talks were at their peak last year leading up to the draft and nearly every post I saw from Panthers fans suggested Markstrom was your guy and Luongo was a wash-out.
Full props for making the case retroactively. Perhaps it wasn't even you that made those posts but my previous comment still stands. |

I think Markstrom could still work out for them. You never know with goalies. His AHL numbers have been consistent, and he's looked just as great as he has awful in Florida. Playing with his buddy Lack should also be a bonus. |

Nope. And even now I would take Luongo. I have never been convinced he was our future. Since day one. The Luongo trade is perfect for us. Gives us credibility; our owners credibility. Our goal tending situation past this season sucked. Thomas was horrible; sorry. I didn't want him back. We had no back up. We've gone from Thomas and Clemmensen to Luongo and Ellis. Hell of an upgrade. Besides Luongo we have some darn good prospects still in net with Houser and Brittain. And this draft has some great goaltenders coming up. The problem I had with the trade before was his contract.. but given the fact the cap is going way up and we have more cap space than any other team going into the off season, I'm good with it now. Plus, you guys are slicing off about $1 million of it. |

Dude, he's looked both fabulous and poopty over the last few years. Consistency has been his issue and lets be honest, your teams defense was terrible. Don't write him off, I think this deal could benefit both teams. |

His success in the AHL is ONE MONTH of decent play. In February he was playing some amazing hockey. Before and after that, not at all. I would love for him to turn into a #1 goaltender.. I just don't see it happening. |

I think it does because I think Matthias will be much more comfortable playing for them. It won't be because of Markstrom, I promise. |

He's probably grateful he won't be on ice for TankNation for the next 3 games. |
