Something along those lines for sure. Since the numbers are based on shots, something is happening. But I just think that possession is important no doubt, but not all that it is made out to be. - MJL
For Vancouver, it's b/c they only cash in on 7.3% of their shots... that's way below average.
Ottawa has poor shooting plus poor goaltending.
Devils literally haven't eked out an OT or SO win all season. |

Only furthers the point that there is a whole lot more to the game then possession.

There are a few outliers, but mostly if you go over the team rankings for Fenwick-close, it pretty much runs in reverse order of who you'd most like to meet in a playoff matchup:

theyll possess it, but they dont really do anything with it. and then when they do surrender possession, quality chances against ensue. - stayinthefnnet
Dallas is really fun to watch though. They go up and down the ice so fast. Their fans look like they're watching a tennis match with the way their heads go back and forth. |

Flawed scoring system in the NHL. A team like Wash shouldn't have even been a buyer at the TDL. |

I wouldn't place nearly that much weight on advanced stats when looking at who I'd most want to meet in the playoffs. Throw it out the window. Any team can be dangerous and have a hot streak, or have a Goalie stand on his head in a 7 game series. And every team that makes the playoffs is a threat. |

Nobody's saying otherwise, however I'd still much rather face the Leafs than the Bruins, all things being equal. |

It's such a simple fix, too. Just go pure W-L... no single points, it's either 2 or nothing. |

Just look at ROW. Flyers are in the top 10 ranked 10th in ROW. Washington is 25th out of 30 teams in ROW. And they're only 4 points back in the Division, from the Flyers. |

So would I, but I wouldn't take the Leafs lightly, and I would fear any team in a 7 game series.

I don't think we need analytics to tell us that though. I would rather the Flyers play any team other than the Bruins.
Teams I would least like the Flyers to play:
1. Bruins
2. Pens
3. Rangers
4. Lightning
5. Habs
6. Wings (Zetterberg and Datsyuk would be back for playoffs)
7. Blue Jackets
8. Leafs
9. Devils
10. Caps |

Id rather go 3 points for every game if they want to include shootouts.
If we stay with 2 points for every game, I'd rather go without the shootout and 1 point each for ties. |

What's the big deal about a team just getting to OT that merits a point in the standings? It feels like it's only there to placate the traditionalists who wouldn't let go of ties. We can argue about how to end a game, be it SO, 3-on-3, etc... but the OT point is the senseless thing that is at the root of all the problems. |

Thats fine. I just don't want to see a team get no points for losing in a shootout. Its a terrible way to end a team game. |

It keeps more teams in the playoff hunt.
Hate it all you want, but it's staying. The owners like it that way. |

I hate the shootout. Maybe its the Flyers lack of success, but I think its a ridiculous end to a team game. Imagine the NBA ending their tie games with a 3 point shootout or MLB ending with a home run derby |

And he wasn't drafted, he went to the Carolina camp and they signed him to a contract. |
