Add to that this great GM sends a letter out to fans - before the season is over outlining his brilliant rebuild plan. Which includes and I quote -

"We’ve added a big, strong 6’4″ centre in Shawn Matthias, who is excited to be here and will help this team now". Who also has never scored more than 24pts in a season. Wow.

The sad/funny thing is the crazy Nuck fans are buying it all - hook, line and sinker.

I haven't heard a single Canucks fan say it was a great move other than the fact that it got Lou out of Van which he desperately wanted.

That's complete BS.

Not enough for Lack, Rielly must be included in the deal or Gillis hangs up.

Reimer had some brutal games in previous years as well when the entire defense decided not to play.

I certainly hope games like this don't kill his confidence but it is only one game.

It's funny, I recall fans or all teams knocking Canuck fans last season for their overvaluation of Schneider - who certainly seems to be holding his own.

My belief is that Lack will be a solid #1 goaltender. He's going to have his ups and downs - especially when the team in front of him is playing with zero confidence.

he squeezed every drop of blood he could from rocks in Tampa and NY. he's a really good coach in general. but what's happened in Vancouver is the perfect storm. bad fit for the personnel, the decline of the Sedins and Burrows, injuries and now possibly the worst goaltending situation in the NHL. Vancouver needs to clean house, Gillis and Torts. but mostly Gillis.

You're 100% dead on about the perfect storm scenario.

The Nucks were on track for 105 points and just finished their best December in team history. Then January hits and now their missing the playoffs and could be looking at a fire sale.

You validate my point that Canuck fans are ok with what's going on. You had 2 no.1 goalies - traded them both away for Horvat and some spare parts.

Still, your belief is they will be ok with Lack, who by the way has proven nothing yet. Frame the letter Gillis sent so you can look back on it years from now and say "see I was right".

That doesn't validate a single thing. The Canucks did have two #1 goalies.

The Scheider deal for the time being was a bad one. Lou's contract obliviously was the main issue with his trade prospects. Everyone knows that.

At no point did I say that I or most fans liked the Schneider deal. Just like the CoHo trade, people have come to terms with it because what else can you do but move on.

Would I feel significantly better if Schneider was in net, absolutely. Am I willing to write off Lack after 1 period, absolutely not.

i can't imagine the Sedins are done at 33. they've got to have 2-3 years left of high level play... i'm curious to see what road the Canucks take with those 2 locked in for 5 years.

i've always loved them. Even when they chirped me for losing to boston when up 4-1 in the 3rd. At least the nucks lost to a great team in NYI and not us to a weak boston bruins cup contender.

Or when they guaranteed and were bragging about the game 7 cup win before it happened.

or when they made fun of the kessel deal, and contract claiming the sedin signings were much more deserved. Or acting like they've had so much more success since the leafs haven't won a cup in 3 whole years longer than they have...

ok, ok, i know i'm trolling but i promise that's it. No more, but you can't blame me for getting that off my chest - Van fans have been very, very smug.

Good thing for van is they started the rebuild already - this year's draft was key for them (shinkaruk and horvat). They also have some great vets that can be traded, unlike other teams who don't. Van should turn it around pretty damn quick it pains me to say. They used to be my second favorite team after the leafs but then they got all these clowns on their team (burrows, etc). I'm glad they never won with that group and i look forward to them getting back to respectability with honest players instead of divers and whiners.

Final post - have they used any buyouts ? Burrows must be bought out if they have any left.

after all the arrogance hockey fans have had to put up with from some of the denizens of this thread... it's going to be a long and painful rebuild for you guys.

Sucks for the good posters... but there are many who've earned it.

It's pretty amazing that despite how bad this team has been, they're still 16 points ahead of the Oilers.

I doubt it will take the 40 plus years it's taking the Maple Leafs. Now f*ck off and go join your denizen circle jerk.

you know what's funny, I remember during the finals in 1994, Canuck fans holding up signs that said 1940 mocking the Rangers.

And next year, it will be the 45th season of existence for the Canucks, still no Cup, and further away than ever.

I think those people holding those 1940 signs jinxed you, what do you think?

I love watching this team crash and burn. The poster earlier is correct, right now the Canucks are Canada's worst team.

I hope they allow Gillis to do a quick rebuild "like Anaheim". Please don't hire someone that actually knows a thing or two about hockey.

Woah, woah, woah...
What's with all the Leafs fans in here? I thought Canucks fans were supposed to be the ones with the "inferiority complex"?
PS: I missed the game last night, anything exciting happen?!
