Honestly the best move is to get rid of Gillis, Torts is not a bad coach. You guys have some good trading pieces to get you on the right path as long as Gillis is not the one in charge. - LeafMan
This is ridiculous-- This team has quit on the coach. And rightfully so. |

The problem being is that Gillis may not actually be in charge, it's looking more and more like it's the owner calling the shots. That always bodes well! - Marwood
This is exactly why Torts will be fired and Gillis will not. FA controls Gillis and save $8m not having to fire him. FA can't tell Torts who to dress and what kind of system to employ. |

If that is the case that the owner hired Torts and is pulling Gillis puppet strings, it will take a new GM with full autonomy by the owner to right the ship and by the sounds of it, that ain't happening. It doesn't take long to fall off the rails but getting back on can take a long time. |

5 guys in the top 9 in 25 game scoring slumps is not on Gillis. Torts was a panic hire by Gillis to save his own ass. It back fired and now they should both be fired....especially giving the guy a 5 year 10m contract. - Scooby_Doo
EXCEPT-- Torts was FA choice. Gillis brought in Gulutzan in the exact scenario where Torts flamed out. How often do you see Gulutzan all buddy buddy with Torts and Sullivan... Hint-- You don't. |

I can't think of a single instance where a micromanaging owner has benefited the team's results. |

The Hodgson note impresses me since absolutely no one seemed to mention he was even being shopped before he was traded.
Saying JT was in the running for HC doesn't impress me. Let's be honest there were only a hand full of names out there last summer and JT and Ruff were the most high profile. - AlexF
I kept hearing that Eakins was Gillis' man but FA wanted Torts over him. Sounds like we were going to get screwed one way or the other.

Thought it was Stevens out of LA that was his man. I always saw it reported that Gillis liked Eakins but his lack of NHL head coaching experience put him out of the running. |

If we are going to do this right, we need to hire john ferguson jr and Ron Wilson. - Scooby_Doo
seriously wouldn't wish Ron Wilson on anyone, regardless of how much I may like/dislike a franchise.... JFJ was essentially pooched in Toronto the moment Peddie's buddies, guys like Domi signed longer term inflated deals- which seems somewhat similar to Gillis situation.
But Gillis didn't do himself any favors with the manner in which he handled/mishandled the whole Luongo/Schneider saga... that was just poor resource management any way you slice it.

Yup, this.
Torts system is not working for this team. Sedins shouldn't be our shot blocking pkers, core players can't keep up with the minutes they're playing, the cycle and offense has been sapped from the team, their inabaility to take any chances has limited them and lost their scoring touches. - moondawg
I said this would happen months ago with torts ....he over plays his top guys and puts them in the wrong spots ....as much as everyone hated AV he knew what he had and used it properly ....torts has to go yet his contract may detract this |

Button just released his top 90 picks for the upcoming draft. I know they say it's a weak draft, but I'm looking forward to it. Draft day is the new most exciting day of the Canucks year! Well done, Gillis! |

The sad thing is both MG and Torts are owned $8m each over the next 4 years. Hopefully FA isn't too cheap to do something about this.
In my opinion both need to go, but I have a feeling Torts will be gone first. He is most responsible for the HOT MESS we saw on the ice last night. He's the one who made the goaltending decision at the Heritage Classic that ultimately lead to the situation that we are in now. Most importantly, his system will never work in the Western Conference. - Chest Rockwell
Let's be fair to Torts here:
- Luongo wanted the heck out of Vancover long before the Winter Classic
- Tort went with the goalie who he thought had a better chance of winning the game. That's his job.
- Quite frankly, I think Luongo acted like a petulant little child. You didn't get the start. Pull your ball cap over your greasy hair, shut up and sit on the end of the bench with a slight smile/bored look on your face. That's your job.
- And tweeting about pulling Vancouver goalies after you've left? Classless. |
