Canucks probably have the worst scouting head in all of hockey, Ron Delorme. We have total shiite picks the past few years. Why we can't draft guys who can come in and make an impact in a few years of the draft I don't understand... other teams have guys they drafted in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounds who make the team and they can then pawn those guys off for solid pieces cuz they have other guys they picked coming into the system the next year. look at the top teams in the league and they all have better player development and drafting than the Canucks. Maybe it isn't Ron Delorme's fault, but someone has to take the blame for the drafting. maybe he's a smart guy who gets his picks overridden by the GM, but i kind of doubt it. We need to poach guys who can draft from Chicago, Detroit, San Jose, LA, etc...
Why we didn't try to hire Patrick Roy I don't know, even if he would only go to the Avs, the least we could have done is talk to the guy? John Davidson and Jarmo Kekalainen are gonna make the Blue Jackets a contender in a year or two. Already they are challenging for a playoff spot. Why can't we have a couple of guys on board running the team like them? it's nuts how close the team was and were it is now... it's all over the map. we've got good players, but bad management. - kaptaan
This. The picks have been bad, but more importantly their PROCESS has been crap. They need to INVEST and DEVELOP PLAYERS.
When you factor in that the Canucks are consistently among highest grossing teams in the league it really speaks to what kind of owner we have. |

I'm saying it. Sedins contract cause the immediate implosion of the Canucks. Take that LC - Yeti1181

You might think I'm talking about the Canucks, but that's the recent past/present/future of the 49ers. Pay Kaep & say hello to the NFCW basement.

We're perennially ranked as having one of the weakest prospect pools in the league. Looking at who we do have, only Shinkaruk might be first line material but even then things will really need to go right for him in his development. IMO Horvat tops out as a 2C, Gaunce as 3C.
The Sedins need to be replaced on the top line and we currently have no one in organization who looks capable of taking over. |

Kinda my point... It doesn't matter how good or bad your picks are. It's how you develop them. Clearly the Canucks do NOT invest and develop players.
How excited are the prospects when Utica is clearly a joke. It's no wonder so many players are not developing there. Not that it was great when it was the Manitoba Moose, but it was alot better than what we have now. |

Fair enough. Its hard sometimes, restraint, but 10 minutes later it feels really satisfying.
Apparently, this train wreck of a season is humbling me ( except with blatant trolls ). |

What's really scary is that I don't think FA is going to fire Torts and Gillis, with them he has the perfect scapegoats, why let them go and face all the fan anger when he can make all the decisions, use them to carry them out and have them bear the brunt of the backlash for them. I don't see them resigning either, not when they'd be giving up millions on their long term contracts. Gillis is in year 1 of a 4 year deal and so is Torts... UGH!!!! - DariusKnight

In all fairness, when we signed them to those extensions we were on pace for 106pts this season.
Furthermore, what's wrong with paying 2nd liners $7m a year in 2 years? All indications are that 1st liners like Toews and Kane will be making upwards of $11-13m each once they get resigned. $7m for 2nd liners will likely be market value at the tail end of their contract. - Chest Rockwell
Toronto signed a 4th liner to a 7 year $7 mill deal, so 2nd liners for $7 mill would be a pretty good deal. Just saying. |

They do invest in fancy, round dressing rooms.
Or maybe they'll take all the money saved from laying off their concession staff and spend it on player development. |
