True....but safe to assume they didn't think they were getting a 40 pt forward with a horrible +\-either....not at 4.5 mil a season ..... - landros 2
No they didn't. But who can predict a back injury?

Robert Hägg's team, Modo, was just knocked out of SHL playoffs today after blowing a 4-0 lead (4-1 after two periods) and losing in OT.
He was dressed as the 7th D and didn't play much until former NHL Dman Richie Regehr got a charging major and game misconduct in the third period (other team, Linköping, scored twice on the five-min power play to tie the game and force OT.
I thought Hägg played well once he started getting shifts. Unfortunately, he had an open shot on net pinching in during OT and shot wide of the net. Shortly after that, Modo took another penalty, and LHC scored (Hägg was one of the penalty killers) to win the game and sweep the best-of-three miniseries.
Next season, wherever he ends up playing, I'd like to see Hägg work on his consistency and in developing his offensive game (all the tools are there). The compete level sometimes wavers with him and he is somewhat prone to the "big mistake" but he also makes a lot of good plays, especially for a teenage Dman in a pro league.

You can't just pop in here then leave. Had me all over twitter looking for a link to that trade.
I would rather hold on to Desean for at least one more year. They need pass rush help. I would rather them use their first pick on that. - PhillySportsGuy
I just came back from a meeting.
Did we trade JACCPOT just as I was finally learning to decipher his twitter account?
What the hell?

I don't know of any evidence to support this. This seems to say that when Schenn has a problem defensively, it's because of Lecavalier. Lecavalier has been a top player in this League for 15 years. Now all of a sudden he isn't. And the injury and the position switch have zero to do with anything. And he has no idea where to be in the defensive zone.
I'll take that bet with Lecavalier at Center. - MJL
He hasn't been a top player for a while.
If Vinny was so much better at center, why does Berube keep playing Schenn there? |

He seems to have some Joni Pitkanen in him. Doesn't always look like he's trying really hard. Part of it is the lack of compete and part of it is a calm demeanor coupled with smooth play. Did he look more engaged today? Considering it was an elimination game? |

+/- doesn't determine if a player is a good or bad defensive player. - MJL
Not the only stat for sure.....but it is an indicator....and seriously you keep bringing up his back injury ????? How do you know he isn't on a sharp decline.....wouldn't be the first mid 30s player to fall off a cliff.....maybe all we got in the first 6 weeks was simply the excitement of a new team.....
What all the detractors have on their side is his play....which has been awful.....what you argue is past results, on pace for and injury excuses......I hoped that Vinny could play, I still hope I'm proved wrong....but my god has he been disappointing.

Yes, he was very much engaged today. There are times, though, where he seems too casual out there (not in the poised, calm, collected sense). Needs to compete in an all games and shifts.
All the physical talent is there, and he can play with a bit of edginess, too, when he wants to.

You can lay out all the stats you want. I can see with my eyes that he's not one of the top 9 forwards on this team. This is the problem with one-way scoring centers. Once they lose their ability to produce, they don't have many options. They can't play bottom 6, but they can't produce enough in the top 6. . |

You would think that with 4 straight years of injury plagued seasons that it "might " be a consideration......just like Lindros might of been at risk for another concussion....I don't care what the injuries were....Vinny has a lot of mileage on him and he appears to be breaking down.

Not to us, but I'd put a good bet in that GM's will use it to when in contract talks. |

I remember watching him in the WJC. There was a minute left with Sweden ahead by a goal. The puck was in the defensive corner and he stood in front of his net (the right position), but had his stick parallel to the ice. He was standing straight up too. He looked like he was just standing around during a timeout. Sure enough, the puck bounced free and he hopped on it and cleared the zone. |

It matters when he's got the worst +/- by a significant margin on the team. When you factor in Berube's penchant for hiding him from top lines, it's even worse |

This is not even close to being representative of my opinion. Nothing I've said has come close to intimating that Lecavalier is still the player he was in his prime. He doesn't have to be to effective for the Flyers, and he was never expected to play at the level he played at in his prime. - MJL

It's not an indicator. Too many false results with +/-. Every year there are good defensive players with lousy +/- stats due to the situations they play in.
Let's look at Lecavalier as a player. He's been a top player in this League for 15 Seasons. He scored last Season at a 67 pt pace. Before his back injury this year, he was scoring goals at a 33 goal pace. He was a player who was hard on the puck, and went hard to the net. Then he gets a serious injury, and is moved to the left side which he's never played before. And all of that should be ignored and the only reasonable assumption that can be made is that his play has fallen off a cliff and he's washed up! I don't buy it for a second. The only way I can see that happen is if his back is chronic, and he'll never get his strength back. But I don't know that to be the case. And neither does anyone else know that. I have not argued against statements that Lecavalier has not played well overall. We all know that to be true.
If there was no injury or he wasn't moved to a different position, then I'd give some validity to the sharp decline falling off a cliff theory. And you know what else happens with proven players like Lecavalier in their 30's? They recover and get their game back, and after having a bad season, rebound back to the level of being a good player again. "wouldn't be the first player to do that"
