Every GM (except for expansion teams) inherits a hand. It's how he plays it. Early on, Gillis played it well. Recently, not so much @aleafer

I think MG makes it through and JT gets canned, maybe before the end of the season.

I think Torts is done after the next loss.

Go Jets!!

Another bad/embarrassing loss tonight and I honestly think there's a chance. How hard the team(especially the veterans) play tonight will say a lot.

If he does get canned during the season, I hope Gully and not Sullivan takes over as inteirm HC.

According to Sports Cub Stats, these are the current Canuck odds for here they'll finish in the West:

8th: 2%
9th: 9%
10th: 33%
11th: 32%
12th: 22%
13th: 1%
14th : 0%

Looks like finishing 12th is the worst/best case scenario(depending on which side of the fence you're on). And the playoffs are extremely unlikely for any Ian Esplen's out there.

Let Gulutzan take over the coaching and bring in a GM with NHL managerial experience. Tell the owner to worry about the business side of things and let the hockey people do the hockey side.
- LeftCoaster

I agree with the coaching and GM firing, but why Gulutzan? I haven't been impressed with any of the current staff. Of the 2 he may be the logical choice if Torts is fired after tonight's game. Also isn't he the coach of the awesome PP the canucks employ?

He did a great job in the AHL and a decent job in Dallas as a first time HC(was one of the youngest head coaches in the league as well). I'm not a big fan of hiring first time coaches, but hiring guys for a second chance is a smart move IMO.

He'd definitely need a PP specialist as an assistant coach though, his PP in Dallas sucked too IIRC.

As I said, logical choice after tonight, then lets evaluate his methods and success or lack of afterwards.

Again, sounds like they may keep Torts rather than spending 8mil to send him packing, and with Gillis that's 16mil. Good thing Gillis saved some money on Luo's deal so he could allow FA to use it to fire him and Torts.

I'd rather see JT go over MG if I had to pick just one. That would make for a good poll.
- Nucker101

If I had to pick only one of them to get fired it would certainly be JT, he has totally lost the room and his brand of hand isn't suited the western conference.

I think I would like to see what GG can do with this group for the ready of the season.

Should be interesting to see how hard the team competes tonight to get Hank a win in his 1000th game.

Do they win it for him, or lose it for Torts?

I think Torts has a bigger influence on how bad/well they play tonight.

"Take a closer look at that coaching hire, folks. Gillis really liked Stevens. One theory is fiery Italian owner liked fiery Italian coach. Makes sense because there's an obvious disconnect between the GM and coach. And if the coach has the owner's ear, wow, talk about a lack of autonomy for the GM. That's why it's such a mess here. Lots of theories and speculation and who really hired whom and what the fall-out is going to be. And follow the money. Empty seats and corporate disinterest isn't sitting well with the owner."

Would really like to see Stevens here. People are right not to show up. We have been very fortunate to watch some great hockey over the last 5 or 6 seasons, but Torts has to be the worst decision ever. I was never on board with it. Can you imagine having that guy harp on you over every little thing? It's no wonder they are broken down and tuned out.
