FWIW, my prediction on the final standings in the East
Atlantic
Boston 115
Metro
Pittsburgh 112

If the Flyers are the 8th seed then they would play Boston according to your points.

FWIW, my prediction on the final standings in the East
Atlantic
Boston 115
Tampa 95 (35 ROW)
Toronto 95 (33 ROW)
Montreal 94
Detroit 93 (34 ROW)
Ottawa 86
Florida 66
Buffalo 59

Metro
Pittsburgh 112
Columbus 96
NY Rangers 95
Flyers 93 (38 ROW)
Jersey 92
Capitals 85
Carolina 82
NY Isles 72

That would just squeak the Flyers in and the 1st round matchups would be:
Pittsburgh vs Philadelphia (think Pens fans will be a bit nervous?)
Rangers vs Columbus
Boston vs Montreal
Tampa vs Toronto

and in the West
Central
St. Louis 117
Chicago 112
Colorado 110
Dallas 99 (38 ROW)
Minny 99 (35 ROW)
Jets 82
Preds 79

Pacific
San Jose 114
Anaheim 111
LA 103
Phoenix 94
Canucks 84
Calgary 72
Edmonton 69

The 1st round matchups would be:
St. Louis vs Minnesota
San Jose vs Dallas
Anaheim vs Los Angeles
Chicago vs Colorado

Of course, I'll probably be wrong on all of these, but what the hey!

Those are some impressive point totals out West.

I may be wrong, but I believe that if both 4th place teams in the Conference are the wildcard teams, they each play the 1st place team in their respective divisions.

Obviously we're all hoping the Flyers can shore up either the 2nd place or 3rd place spots in the Metro. Settling for one of the wildcard spots would be disheartening considering how far the Flyers have battled between firing their coach and overcoming a horrific, worst-in-franchise history beginning of the season. Everyone knows how well this team in recent history has fared against the Penguins but I'd prefer not to see them in the 1st round.

I heard the guy that yelled at the kid was from Philly. He apparently flew to Winnipeg to get drunk on maple syrup and moose piss and fight all the fans in the area for being dumb and living in such a cold place, but when he saw that little poop wearing the hated Islanders jersey, his plans were replaced by red rage and he attacked.

It makes sense.

So yeah, it's Philadelphia's fault.

Agreed. The 1-7 start, coupled with the remaining schedule, and they will have earned a spot if they qualify.

I'm not crazy about this for a few reasons. First you want to give incentive for teams to finish the game in regulation. In a 3-2-1 point system both teams lose the possibility of a point if they dont try and win in regulation. Same for the Shootout. There are teams that are so good in the shootout they will just sit back and wait for the shootout because they know that are going to win that. In the 3-2-1 system any game that goes to a shoot-out is only worth 1 point. It will make teams "desperate" to win in regulation, and OT.

And Finally by getting rid of the loser point you wont see as much clustering of teams. The good teams will rise up because they will win in regulation more. The not so good teams will sink... But this sinking will eventually help them as thier draft picks will get better and then they can truely become a good team again.

- SchennBros

Which is fine, but you still have unevenly weighted games. The "old" system worked because the winner got 2, the loser got 0, and both teams got 1 in a tie. The OTL messed that up, and the shootout has made it worse. Every game should be worth a certain amount of points and those points should be distributed through some predetermined formula. I'm not against giving fewer points for a shootout win, but I do like the idea of evenly weighted games.

And the perfect example is Washington. With their ROW being low, there;s no way they should be that close to contending for a playoff spot.
