I heard the guy that yelled at the kid was from Philly. He apparently flew to Winnipeg to get drunk on maple syrup and moose piss and fight all the fans in the area for being dumb and living in such a cold place, but when he saw that little poop wearing the hated Islanders jersey, his plans were replaced by red rage and he attacked.

It makes sense.

So yeah, it's Philadelphia's fault.

It was a shame that he dropped his snowball rushing towards the little miscreant.

I want them to play so I stop being peeved about the end of last game. Sigh...
We have company over Sun so I'll be missing the 2nd part of this back to back.

Slow day.

Just doing some speculating.... Buffalo is going to have either the 1st or 2nd pick in the draft. If they have the first pick of the draft, and Ekblad is considered the top pick, I'm not sure they hold onto that pick. Last year they drafted both Ristolinen and Zadarov, will they take Ekblad too? Do you think maybe it would be possible to pry that draft pick away from Buffalo?

If they don't want Ekblad, they will just take Reinhart. Most mock drafts have those guys as comparable. They have so many needs though. It's not a bad thing to have 3 stud dmen in your system. They can always trade one or deal guys like Myers and Ehrhoff. Both of those guys can bring back a top offensive prospect.

Plus, if they suck again next year, the draft is very strong. They could even suck enough to have a good chance at McDavid. Can you imagine having that kind of talent in their system?

I don't mind it that much. You can find all stars all over the first round. Many guys picked 20-30 end up being better than guys in the top 10. Its not like the NBA where the real talent is in the top 10 and teams picking 20-30 are unlikely to find anything more than a role player.

What is interesting is NYI can Defer this years draft pick to the 2015 draft, because the Islanders are going to have such a high pick this year, I wonder if they do that. That would give Buffalo 3 first round draft picks in that year, and 2 might be high picks...

Its a tough decision. I think they need to bite the bullet and concede this years. Next year's draft is going to be really good. It would be just like the Islanders to relinquish a pick then win the lottery and miss out on McDavid.

Personally, since the Islanders are in our division, I'd be fine with them not potentially getting McDavid.

When the Pens were winning Cups in the early 90's, the Flyers were, basically, a dumpster fire until '95.
- johndewar

honestly, i was too young to remember either the pens cups or the flyers dumpster fire ways. by the time i started being old enough to fully appreciate things, the pens were on their way to becoming a joke. but damn if mario and jagr werent still the coolest thing.

and then early on i developed a very (frank) lindros' attitude.

and then once i really started to appreciate hockey, the whole bullies and physical mentality turned me off beyond reproach.

Jaromir Jagr is one of the coolest names, no doubt about it. Still, that wasn't quite enough to make me a fan of the Pens.

That's quite a pedestal for Mario.

Lindros was no slouch back in the day. You just wanted to be a contrarian...but only for hockey for some reason, or are you also a Cowboys fan?

- wolfhounds

that pedestal may have a tinge of bias and a dash of hyperbole, but it still isnt too far off.

and my problem was never with lindros' talent. just from the start, the whole wah i wont play somewhere thing, followed by him and his family's incessant female doging. i will never deny his talent. looking back now with retrospect any argument other than his unfortunate injuries robbing the game of an all time great talent is pretty severely flawed. but the dude was a wussy, regardless of how tough he was on the ice.

and no, i wasnt THAT much of a contrarian to like the cowboys. although im not really an eagles fan either.

the only teams i really follow religiously are the pens and the phillies.

i think the NHL and all leagues for that matter should change the draft system. the 1st pick in the draft should go to the team that has the BEST non playoff record. they should be rewarded for actually trying to make the playoffs. this would put a stop to teams tanking seasons to get the top pick, and stop teams from having a garage sale at the trade deadline. plus it would also stop rewarding a teams like the pens and oilers, who did nothing to improve there teams for a decade.

They've just initiated a full out rebuild... not really the kind of situation where you'd think they'd be trading away lottery picks. Their prospect system isn't deep enough to be doing that yet.

If you want a lottery pick in this draft, your best bet is Craig MacTavish.

It still kind of bugs me, rewarding the most inept with the highest pick, or at worst 2nd overall. I would rather see the team with the best record who misses the playoffs picking 1st and the team with the worst record picking 14th. That way there will be no tanking for a shot at the next Lemieux or McDavid or whomever.

Quick question, if the Flyers end up picking somewhere between 12-18, who are some of the best likely scoring wingers and dmen that should be available in that part of the 1st round?
