I'd laugh my butt off if that happened, though I'm really hoping that McDavid ends up in the Western Conference.

Quick question, if the Flyers end up picking somewhere between 12-18, who are some of the best likely scoring wingers and dmen that should be available in that part of the 1st round?
- BiggE

In no order

Kasperi Kapanen
Haydn Fleury
Alex Tuch
Jared McCann
Josh HoSang
Dylan Larkin
Ivan Barbashev
Julius Honka
Adrian Kempe
Conner Bleackley

Doubt that'll happen, but it would be awesome!

Quick question, I just heard that the Eagles picked up Darren Sproles. Is that for real?

Draisaitl poised to become highest-drafted German

"You want to talk about a miniature Jaromir Jagr with a Doug Gilmour-type intensity, you've got him right here," Central Scouting's Peter Sullivan told NHL.com.

I feel like it will happen. You know the Isles won't give up this year's pick because "they will turn things around next season and the pick won't be nearly as high!"

i think the NHL and all leagues for that matter should change the draft system. the 1st pick in the draft should go to the team that has the BEST non playoff record. they should be rewarded for actually trying to make the playoffs. this would put a stop to teams tanking seasons to get the top pick, and stop teams from having a garage sale at the trade deadline. plus it would also stop rewarding a teams like the pens and oilers, who did nothing to improve there teams for a decade.
- devfan30

You can't really do it that way. Next season, Flyers would be better off missing the playoffs by one spot than getting in.

I think the best way would be to give all non-playoff teams the same opportunity at the first 3 picks. Then slot the rest in order by record. If a team can't get better by having multiple years of top 5 and top 10 picks then you may need to find new management. This isn't the NBA. Teams don't need the first pick to get better.

I'm with you on the Phils, though I have a sad feeling that its going to be a long summer.
- BiggE

oh yeah. they wont be good again for a long while. but thats what happens. they went all in on that stud team they had from a few years ago, and looked very much in the present as opposed to the future. it just wouldve been nice to win one more in that span. but it sure was nice to have playoff baseball for like a 5 year span.

it will likely take them at least another 5 to possibly get back again. this current roster pretty much has the least overall value of almost any team in the league.

Fleury looks like someone they should be interested in, seems like one of the few dmen in this draft worthy of a top 15 pick

Under that system, the Leafs and Flames would basically own the top-3 picks for the past decade, lol.

IMO, they could probably keep the present system essentially intact, but weight the lottery using an algorithm that includes factors beyond just the final standings... like recent past season(s) performance, scoring data, strength of schedule, team SH%'s and SV%'s, amount of cap-space unused, etc... so they can still reward teams for trying hard while not punishing teams that are truly bad and need the help... like the '06 Flyers.

Yup, in order to succeed this season, they would basically need every key player to remain healthy and produce and I just can't see any way that can happen.

Keith Law ranked every MLB team based on how promising their future is. He took into account Present team, future team, management, flexibility and finances. The Phillies were ranked 27th. He had them last in management meaning he thinks Reuben is the worst GM in baseball. If not for the team being one of the best financially, they would have been last.

Brayden Schenn was 2.0, Scott Laughton 3.0, Bo Horvat was 4.0... we must be on 5.0 at least by now.

You're right. I forgot about Horvat. To be fair, McCann has better speed and I think he's a more physically gifted player.

yeah. theyre awful in nearly every aspect, with no hope on the horizon. for all of the female doging people have given the eagles over the years for walking away once a guy hit thirty, the phils exact opposite approach is what put them in this mess. i love chase utley. he embodied the rebirth of baseball in this city, and everything that is good with the game. but in reality, he is a 30 something year old with 50 year old knees who is essentially done playing over 120 games a year. howard, who i actually think will have a decent year this year, isnt a young promising slugger anymore. he is a deal that literally could not be given away.

they just held onto the old gang for too long, and now are left holding the bag. like i said, its a commendable approach in some ways, and im grateful as a fan they got one. i still think its a slight disappointment, they couldnt get another in that window, but it happens. now, they are old, broken, locked into awful contracts with yesterdays pieces, and have quite possibly the worst farm system in the game. all with an idiot running it.

but hey, hopefully now ill be able to afford/stomach going to some games this summer
