Gillis' entire 1st rd pick strategy for some years seemed to be: pick the highly rated guy who's fallen down the draft order into your lap. There's often a reason for their fall from grace. - AlexF
Interesting thought. I suspect his backgroung as an agent may lead him to those decisions. Too much focus on the positives of a situation and not enough on the negatives. |

The best amount of success for this franchise came when we had "hockey people" in the organization. Like him or hate him Brian Burke spent just over ten year in various hockey positions with different organizations and the league before he took over the GM role with Vancouver. I think we need that again! |

Tanev came from those ranks so you never know. This kid wears #19 so now we know the real reason for the Canucks wanting to bring Naslund back to Vancouver. They're going to unretire his jersey for this kid. |

Burrows leads all Canucks in goals this month. I think that says all that needs to be said. |

But these are just generalizations/reputations of a guy like Ferraro having a smart hockey mind. Sure, I'd give him a look as a front office guy to learn the ropes for a a few years but he's not ready. Naslund wasn't exactly successful over in Sweden as a GM from what I read today so no tanks, again if he's willing to come on as one of the assistant front office type to learn and maybe(keyword) get a shot someday then sure.
But if Gillis goes I want a front office guy that's shown to have a good eye for talent in the NHL to build up some young assets for this team to build around. - Nucker101
For years, all I heard in T.O. was how the Jays HAD to hire Buck Martinez. Fans thought he had a fantastic mind for baseball and he knew the Jays better than almost anyone.
So they hired him. It didn't end well. I know it's a managerial position vs GM but still, it illustrates your point.

Not much of a baseball fan but as you point out I'm not for having one of them as the GM. More of a Charelli & Neely kind of situation. Ferraro, Gretz, Naslund etc. would all be horrific choices as a GM. |

Whats the worst way this season could end? Whatever it is should probably be what we anticipate. Even the Canuck's team bus broke down today.... |

#Canucks sign former Vernon Viper Mike Zalewski of RPI as college free-agent. 6'2" forward. 21-years-old
Never heard of him, time for research. - LeftCoaster
Nice! Now we can rename Nucks to Monsters Inc.
We have Sully, Mike Zalewki (Waowski) and we have Kassian with his smiley face.
FML. This is what we have to look towards for entertainment with this team. |
