There was no way of knowing that Fucale would be there and goalies are probably the riskiest pick of any position. I could see why Lou wanted someone with more experience. The problem is that the organization wasn't ready to break up with Marty. The move said that we were moving in a different direction, but the actions of Lou and Pete since then say otherwise.

If only those owners came a little earlier kovy might of stayed and we could of had him and nichushkin

Shouldn't it ironically be a picture of Marty then?

I'm fine with status quo when we're in a playoff spot but something needs to change when status quo is 11th place.

Edmonton traded for Fasth and locked up Scrivens for a few years, don't think they would trade for a goalie. Also doubt we would get a higher pick than we received. Best options would probably be the islanders, jets, and the caps. Hell maybe Vancouver could use him now

Cory for Kesler.

That's actually a pretty fair deal. Just posted it in the canucks thread, should get a pretty good response.

I think I would be alright with a deal like that. We could totally use Kesler but obviously trading away a young goalie could haunt us for years if we never find a decent replacement.

Losing him for nothing would be even worse. If we're not going to play Schneider like a starter then we might as well cash in on his value and see what a little more offense can do in front of marty.

Well for sure that's why Lou better start discussing contract details with him this summer. If he fails on this one and lets another guy walk for nothing in their prime he has to be done. That will be like the 6th guy now if it happens. Think im being generous too by saying 6th.

We'll see if Schneider even wants to talk about a new contract in the summer. We haven't exactly done anything to make ourselves attractive to him. If he wants another season to see where the team is before he signs do you trade him or hope it all works out?

I'm kind of skeptical that JvB could have afforded both.

still never understood what happened with him after 2012. We just discretely didn't bring him back after he put up 20 goals. If nothing else he would've been better than wasting picks acquiring D'Agostini, Poni, and Sullivan last year. Sykora prolly would've come on for the minimum.

He was carried by Elias all season. It was a great story and I loved seeing him back but he just didn't have many skills at an NHL level other than his shot. Probably better than Ryder though.

I dunno why but I still have this irrational dislike for Parise since he walked. He's such a class guy and there's no way to hate someone for taking a gazillion dollars to play at home. But the fact that our 27 year old, world class captain, who we spent years drafting and developing can walk for absolutely nothing... It embodies everything that is awful about cheering for a small market team.

Kovalchuk's signing is still a mystery to me. Somehow we materialized $100 million dollars to sign him, but when Parise is ready for a long term contract the year he came off his knee surgery, we were going through tough times and couldn't scrape together more than a 1 year deal. So many unanswered questions.

It rubs me the wrong way that the captain of a finals team would just bolt after but as you said, many unanswered questions. The best guess I can give is that the banks didn't want JvB sinking into more and more debt and so the franchise was having trouble budgeting for the future. That's why I think they gave parise one year and waited until after the draft to start talks.

wait wait wait. Is this under the assumption that we bring Marty back as the #1 next year? At 43? After all this blabbering about Schneider being eons better than Brodeur? I understand that this is assuming Schneider doesn't want to come back.. or we trade him before even giving him the option.. but still.. #1 priority isn't trading a top 10 goalie, it's keeping him. It's putting me in a weird space to see you entertaining options presuming BRODEUR is in net.

This team can't let Brodeur go. They need to give him starts to appease him. Why have Schneider be his backup? Its a colossal waste of our assets. If the #1 priority was keeping a top 10 goalie we'd play him.

... can't give in.. can't give in.. think of my happy place.. think of my happy place... make it stop. make the visions stop! Parise... centering as a rookie.. then on the wing.. with rookie Zajac and vet Langenbrunner.. lighting it up.. he looks like the future! He looks like our captain! The captain we've been waiting for! for YEARS we've been waiting for a real captain!! one that will be with us for the long haul! Here he is!! He has the C!! Look at our leader! Look at that short handed goal! Look at his motor! Check out his leadership!!! look at him! OUR CAPTAIN! ZAAAACH... PARISE!!!!!!... .. ok we got him re-signed.. ok 1 year.. alright we'll just lock him up next year when we have more cap space. Oh man we're going to the Finals!!!! PARISE!!! What a team we have now! Parise-Henrique-Kovy are really doing work! This Henrique kid looks great! With these rookies on D, Henrique in the middle.. the vets in Elias and Zubrus.. and now 2 stars that can play together... the sky is the limit!!! We have IT! We have a team! Wedgewood and Kinkaid should be ready when Brodeur retires.. if not, there's plenty of FA goalies to bridge the gap! Larsson is great, Gelinas and Merrill coming up.. this kid Boucher!? Henrique!! We have THE CAPTAIN!!!!!!!! THE FUTURE IS SO BRIGHT!!! FINALLY!!! After those murky post-Stevens/Nieds/Dano years.. we've finally built our new identity and are a contending team for the foreseeable future!!!!!!!!

poop.

I hope the people screaming for Marty to stay and plAy don't say a word when Cory leaves. He should of been traded just another mistake made by the franchise by putting loyalty first and where has that got them ? Clarkson parise and kovalchuk didn't show any loyalty back the only thing it has gotten us it horrible contracts like zajacs and Marty's son like can you bend us over one more time before you leave Marty
