Ek is saying Sabres would take a more ready player for the Number one pick. If Canucks did trade up I would take Ekblad as much as we need scoring. You could build a solid D for years.

F*ck that, I want a football score 21-17 and a line brawl that spills over into the stands, with the 10 or so fans of both teams going at it and with the homeless people papered into coming to this game drunk on the free beers and hot dogs they got. |

That works too, it will put DCT into the NFL mood during the offseason |

I don't know much about Sam Bennett but I've heard he could go #1. Reinhart will likely fall IMO. |

I would never take a D with that high a pick. If we're drafting high it should be for Reinhardt or Bennett. |

I think the top in the top 7 there is no clear cut winner it will depend on what the team needs |

Depends on your team's need, your first pick should be the best player available that fits into your organizational need. So if that's a first line center, you go for Reinhart, if that's a sniper, Bennett, if it's a stud D, Ekblad. Somewhere along the line, you need to use the draft like the NFL teams do where they stock up on positions of need and take the most pro-ready player you see on the board when your number is up.

I think it's pretty clear where our team needs are, hence my recommendation.

Fair enough, I personally would go for Reinhart, because we need a number 1 C to replace Henrik, but I think Bennett's more NHL-ready than Reinhart. A 1-2 punch of HuSh and Bennett would be deadly |

Our current D core is serviceable for years to come. Focus on the forward top 6. |

Yeah I'd go for Reinhardt as well because 1Cs don't grow on trees and are notoriously difficult to trade for.
These are pipe dream though. I can't see Gillis trying to package an Edler + 1st for a higher pick, nor could I see Edler waiving for an EDM or BUF. I don't know Edler's mindset, but FLO may be more desirable given the climate. |

After COrrado who is our next top D prospect. |

You miss my point, our forward core is in shambles and can't score. It's been a running issue for years. Our D core is serviceable and will be for years to come. In fact, we can even afford to trade a D for more forward help.
Which would you deem as the greater need right now?
It goes without saying that I'd like to stock up on all positions so that we have a pipeline for years to come but in the salary cap era dominated by the draft there's a limit to how great you can stock up in every position.
As I said above, 1Cs are very difficult to get a hold of. If we really want to transition the Sedins to the 2nd line we've got to get players that can actually replace them. |
